Will SIP work for this

I've just purchased a Mercedes GL450 whose paint is not up to Autopian Standards. Lots of scratches and swirls. The scratches you can't feel with your fingernail. I'm planning on buying some Menzerna SIP and then following up with 106ff. I have yellow, orange, green, and white LC CCS pads. Will this be enough to get rid of the swirls and scratches by PC? If so, what pads should I use? It seems most people reccomend going with orange over yellow because they yellow just may be too hard. Is this correct? If I need something stronger please reccomend something?

Thanks

Grats on the new Mercedes! What year is it? If it's new, you'll have one of the hardest clear coats out there. I think it was 2005 that they started using the ceramiclear clear coats.

I'm assuming that you'll be using a DA style buffer, like a PC or UDM. Get some 4" pads. They'll work best for you. Then use a 4" orange LC pad with SIP. You'll need to do *multiple* applications of SIP to get the swirls and scratches out. Plan on about five or six applications. This is going to be a looooong day. When you're happy with the swirl and scratch removal, use a 4" white LC pad and the PO106FF polish for at least two applications. Three if you have time.

SIP and PO106FF were specifically made to work on ceramiclear clear coats, but they definitely don't have the teeth with a DA as they do with a rotary.

If you find that the SIP just isn't doing the correction you need, you might consider stepping up to a real compound. I like Menzerna Power Gloss, but I haven't used many others with a PC, so it's really the only one I can recommend. Some guys are saying that Maguiars M105 works great with a PC, but it has a pretty steep learning curve.

Good luck with the polishing, and grats again on the new ride! :D

Remember least aggressive pad first.

Thanks, the car is 2007. I would be using a PC. Being that the clear is so hard, Am I just wasting my time with a PC? I've been thinking of going with a rotary but am still a little scared.
