will a dual action fix these swirl marks or do I need high speed buffer? (photo)

I've attached a picture of a dark green BMW with swirl marks you can only see in direct sunlight.

Can I tell, before buying or using either, if I can remove them using a Dual Action Orbitable or I need a high speed buffer?

Thanks for any ideas!

I would say start with LC orange pad and SSR2.5 or a LC yellow pad and SSR1. Take your time and go slow. Apply some pressure. Start around 4-5 take it to around 6. I bet it would take them right out.

Cheers

Nick

Like state above with the right pad/product combo, yes it will.

Here is an example of what I've been able to remove with a PC:

I've removed some nasty swirls on black with my PC. Be prepared to give yourself plenty of time to do this. It takes time to get it done right and it's going to take multiple passes.

Here are some pictures for reference:

There was also hazing and holograms

PC = Porter Cable. Is this a dual action or high speed rotary buffer?

Also, blkyukon, those results are MOST impressive. I looked at your site as well. One question, probably because of my ignorance, you went from Poorboy's SSR 2.5 to Menzerna Intense Polish to Menzerna PO85RD - all for that one panel or were those different situations? If for the same panel, the before and after pictures on (http://www.melncal.com/detailing/fp.html) almost look like slitghly different colors - is that just my imagination or does a great detail job take away the years that made it look that way?

Many thanks guys!

PC = Dual action

It was the same panel for demonstration purposes only, it's to show that each polish as they breakdown look different.

As far as the color I didn't set the white balance on the camera so the color change is just variations from different white balance set points.

remember that not all paint is the same. I remember Mike Phillips saying once that some older ford paint was so hard.... even the rotary couldn't correct it. Extreme case, but it is out there. That bmw maybe more stubborn than the red truck, which is very easy to work on with a rotary.

blkyukon - man, I have to tell you that I had NO idea you get those kinds of results without a high speed rotary buffer. Very nice work!

Yes the PC is remarkable. Keep in mind that the PC isn't just any old cheap DA Orbital you can pick up. The PC is basically a High Speed Orbital on steroids.

The only other DA that most might consider 'better' would be a cyclo. I have yet to pick up a Cyclo though. Anyway, these two are in a class of their own.
