Why is alcohol bad in Quick Detailers ?

I have noticed that QD's with alcohol make your car shiny but also it seems to remove some of the top wax coat.

Are there any QD's w/Carnauba and NO acohol?

All QD's contain some alcohol. Some contain more than others, in trace amounts it will not harm anything. Others with higher concentrations can harm wax coatings. I know the 3M QD is loaded with Alcohol.

Sounds like alcohol is pretty harsh on a car finish.

Zymol Field Glaze does not contain alcohol.

I am not sure about Pinnacle Crystal Myst.

I do know EF Clear Pearl does contain alcohol.

I guess the cheaper the product, the more alcohol it contains.

The purpose is to reduce the vapor pressure of the mixture so the product evaporates quickly off your car. This way you don't have to go through 5 towels to QD a car!

I would guess the alcohol concentration is very low and will not harm the finish or strip wax. Alcohol adds no gloss to the paint, usually suspended oils are in the formula for that purpose.......

speaking of QDs... will EFCP harm Zaino?

EFCP contains wax and will interfere with Zaino's bonding if you intend to layer. If your not going to layer, I see nothing wrong with it.

I remember someone posting some MSDS info on a QD a while ago, and the alcohol content was like 1.5% or something insignificant. I can't detect any alcohol evaporating off either when I sniff my QD.... not that I do that a lot! ;)
