Why I don't like Zaino

I thought the title would get some attention, but I really do have a Zaino pro question. I have used Zaino in the past (original, but with ZFX), and one thing I really hated about it was you only had to use maybe 1/4 oz to do a whole car, but it wasn't practical to mix less than 1/2 to a full oz of polish, which meant you had to throw away a lot of polish unless you could do like three cars at once or something. Does this bother anyone else? Have they changed anything since I used it? I think if it were thinner it would be easier to mix a smaller quantity. I really like Zaino's gloss and longevity, but have been using Klasse because of the throw-away polish issue (BTW--Klasse is very good too, but I don't think quite as good looking).

Sure, that is something to "not like" about Zaino.

But that is in your control since you obviously don't have to use ZFX. It's a trade off. You decide.

You can mix that 1/2 oz. and then do as many layers as you can get out of it, make sure to do the wheels and glass. When I have too much I do the jambs and any other handy painted surface, on the car or not ;)

Easiest solution is to mix small amounts of Zaino in a syringe or use ZAIO or CS.

Sal should include a syringe or smaller mixing bottles.

Yes, I do understand your concern. Typically I don't use ZFX on every application, so when I use it straight out of the bottle its not a concern. When I do use ZFX and I have extra I usually hit the hood and roof again, along with the glass. If I still have more I throw a coat on my driver, 5 wood and hybrids...

"Why I don't like Zaino" is because you have to mix more than you use. Can we "Zaino-Zealots" assume that other than that single reason, you prefer Zaino's products as your sealants of choice? I always mix "too much" Z-2 and/or Z-5, and then layer it until all has been used. Usually put 2 layers on the whole car and then a 3rd one on the hood, top, and trunk (and I still probably apply it to thickly). Economically, Zaino's durability probably justifies "wasting" some of it if you are not going to layer it.

What ever you do Zaino Z8 is a keeper!

just did a Z8 wiped down!

That is fine if you have the extra time but I don't. :nixweiss

ZAIO + Z5 = more than enough durability and no mixing, no guessing and no product waste. Plus my bottle of Z5 last a lot longer.

Honestly, I wonder if the whole 'layering' thing is because Zaino is so durable. The average person really only needs to apply a single layer 2-3 times a year. It would take years to go through a bottle....but if you are putting on three layers at a time...well, you do the math. ;)

I am not into Zaino, never tried it. But, from what I've read and from the advice of another detailer I respect, I'm looking at getting Z5 and Z8. My question - as long as the paint is clean and hasn't been topped with anything in a month - is ZAIO necessary before Z5?

It's not only the math, but I'm looking for appearance and durability.

Sal Says, "And while a single application of Z-2 PROâ„¢ should provide months of long lasting good looks, Z-2 PROâ„¢ can be layered for even greater results. With each subsequent coat, the finish on your vehicle will become more glossy, more reflective and more deep." For me, the extra 2 or 3 layers do improve the depth and appearance of the finish; not to mention the durability.

I've 3 DD's, Silver, Black, and Red which are garaged at night. Prior to this fall, since spring 2006, they've only been washed infrequently with Z-7 because of health and family issues, as well as this past summer's heat. After being rinsed, they still looked pretty good after 18 months, and beaded water. They've each gotten the works over the past 3 weeks; Z-2 and/or Z-5 (with FXS), Z-CS, and Z-6 or Z-8. I also did my "outdoor" heap, a dark blue 1985 Quantum Synchro, and my grand-daughter's (will also stay outside) dark red '91 Camry with ZAIO, Z-CS, and Z-6. My daughter Z'd her '95 Corvette (will be covered). I'll be very interested in comparing their appearances with the garaged vehicles over the next few months. And I'd rather put forth the major effort in fall's cooler, crisper weather.

Yes, from what I've seen Zaino is slightly better as far as both looks and durability, although Klasse is a very close second to both.

I'm with Scott on this one. I love Zaino but I find NO NEED to layer it. In fact, I layered it once and there was no noticeable difference that I could see. I won't layer it again.

It depends on how you define layering. I don't see a reason for excessive layering but a couple layers before winter is a good idea. Also Z8 really adds another dimension. I'd technically consider adding Z8 as layering.

Two coats to ensure complete coverage seems to work well with any product, including Zaino. I agree that using Z8 really helps out too.
