Have any of you heard of this young man who they claim is the best detailer in the world? Practices his art in the UK along with Paul Drake who also claims to be the top detailer in the world.

Drake may be as. Swissvax named a $1295 can of paste wax after him.

What are they doing in the UK that we don't here in the US. Never heard any American detailer called the best in the world or had a wax named after him.

Never heard of the detailer nor the wax??

Something is haywire in terms of wax because no paste, creame or liquid Carnuaba wax formulation can contain more than 15% wax by volume. Anymore and the product would be unusable according to our chemist and others in the industry that I have talked to about this.

Based on your industry experience, how much can a jar of the most highest price wax cost to produce?

Do you want all the chemical companies in the detail industry to put a "hit" out on me asking such a question?

Let me say this: a can of good paste wax should cost no more than $12.95; a gallon of liquid Carnuaba wax under $25 and a gallon of the top paint sealant under $30.

HaHa - No, I totally understand. And those prices are probably with triple to quadripple mark up too. I never did believe that a tub of the $8400 Z**** wax really cost $8395 more than all the others. It has a nice container though.

As PT Barnum said, "there's sucker born every minute..."

We see it in the detail chemical business people paying these crazy prices.

Marketing. PERIOD.

Folks here, in the US, use marketing techniques that are worth no more than the ink that writes or the effort used to type the words. It's no different here than there really.

Marketing is used by detailers the exact same way as used by manufacturers that sell "premium" priced waxes.

Marketing for sure, BUT anybody here on this board who puts their hands on some Vintage or Crystal Rock knows what an amazing difference these waxes produce. They are durable when layered, but not as durable as some of the nano synthetics out there, but that warm glow can't be bought from Meguiar's..

I did not mean to suggest that there is no value to more expensive things. As anyone who looks at my prices know, I am not cheap. But without that marketing, people tend to struggle on choosing this over that. Marketing is why everyone knows the name Meguiar's and most car guys know of Zy**l and Zaino.

What I was saying is that someone here(USA OR autopia), can't judge others for their marketing technique. It's hypocritical.

Shoot, marketing is a huge part of my week.

If you can get people to pay that kind of money for $20 worth of ingredients, more power to you.

It's at that point you're no longer selling people wax, you're selling them the perception of prestige.

Looks like he has picked up where Paul Dalton has left off; just ratcheted up the pricing a bit.

It doesn't seem to difficult to get a car wax named after you. Got to be something in the UK/European cultural mindset that places a high value on this. Here in the states, if we can't get our personal brand on the shelves at Target, it's not worth the effort.

I think the UK (London in particular) has a big advantage of density. If you are located in the right place and have access to this clientele, you can really hit it big. The US is simply too large and diverse for any American detailer to fully leverage this customer base. It would be difficult for a detailer to call themselves the "Best In West LA, Santa Monica, and Venice", let alone the world. But I guess if you consider yourself the "best" in the UK, you are the best in the world by extension.

I disagree.

It's easy to call yourself the best anything, anywhere. The hard part is proving it.

But that's the beauty of pretentious, subjective marketing hype, you don't have to prove anything. You can just preach your opinions and leave out hard facts.

pc.

He's actually a very nice guy and a fantastic detailer... and one of my distributors :). Hat's off to the man for being so clever with his marketing, but his work really is amazing too so he's got the skills to back up what he claims.

Just had a flash black to the movie Tomie Boy.

Because they know all they sold ya was a guaranteed piece of ****. That's all it is, isn't it? Hey, if you want me to take a dump in a box and mark it guaranteed, I will. I got spare time. But for now, for your customer's sake, for your daughter's sake, ya might wanna think about buying a quality product from me.
:lol Cracks me up every time.

Your pretty spot on with the 15%!

I don't know this detailer. It sounds like marketing is really working out for him. Best of luck with that. I remember my dad saying when I was kid. He said "Barry if you become great at one thing, remain humble. Always give Back, and never claim to be the best. Victory will triumph all and the truth will be told."
