Who here has wetsanded and taken out the scratches with a PC

depends alot on the hardness of your paint, on my old car it was a repaint and i was able to remove 2000grit sand marks with the pc and dacp, on my new car which is all factory paint 2000grit sand marks wont budge on speed 6 and dacp. If your going to do it, do a test spot first.

I've removed 2000 grit marks (on black paint) by hand with 3M rubbing compound. Haven't had a chance to try it yet, but I'm sure a PC can get the job done. Be cautious of the paint hardness like Acura suggested. Some paints may require a rotary. I can't imagine not being able to remove 2000 grit though, it's pretty shallow.

I wetsanded my car about a month ago. Half of the car had about 2 month old paint and the other half had about 2 week old paint. I used unigrit 2000. I used a pc on max speed with 2 different wool pads. I used intensive polish first. It did nothing to sanding lines. I then tried used pI-II and it still didnt get them all the way out. I then got pI-III RC it did a better job, however there are still sanding lines on my hood. You can only see them in certain light but they definetly are still there. I buffed the car 4-5 times. As I said I was on max speed with the pc and wool pads. Also, I was pushing with a great amount of weight. My wool pad actually came off the velcro pad. For me it was worth because my paint job was terrible and each time I took it bad it was worse. I will probably go back and try some more later but after day upon day buffing after spending day upon day wetsanding I needed to stop and take a break. You may want to try a small spot and see how it goes. I did that first myself and I did see any lines. However, when I did the whole car there are some.

How much cutting does the 3m pI-III RC have? Is it comparable to a heavy cut or medium cut meguiars? I think I may just go all out and get a wool pad and meguiars diamond cut, if you could do it with the 3m rubbing compound-which as I understand is a scratch removing glaze- Im pretty sure the ultra abrasive diamond compound from meguiars could. Thoughts?

Alright Im going to try it. I was just checking out the TOL page and they sell a 1000-1500 grit remover that they go so far as to recommend for the PC. TOL has always steered me right so I'm going to give it a try. Wish me luck :)

The pi-III I used was the rubbing compound not the machine glaze. The rubbing compound is more aggressive than pf-ii rubbing compound. It suppose to be able to get our 1500 grit lines. My main concern is that alot of the stronger stuff seems to be on recommended for rotary use. I have some 3m superduty heavy cut which I chickened out on using since I dont have a rotary. Good luck and as people have said try it on a small area first.

It is my understanding that if I use too aggressive of a compound the heat will not "break it down." Because of this if I cannot get access to a rotary I'm going to go for the TOL medium cut which is advertised for 1000-1500 grit sand paper scratches (the max what I could possibly have), and is designed for a PC.

thanks for your help, you have given me some faith if I cannot get a rotary :)
