AMG Classic Car Detailing
Like the title says, who Inspired you the most when you started detailing for yourself or for others.
Myself was my Dad, when he ask me to wax the family car and later on show me a few things on washing and waxing.
So who got you into detailing?

To be honest, there wasn't anyone in particular who got me into detailing, I just loved clean cars!

But in 2001, there was a guy (now a close friend), who taught me to take detailing to the next level!

His name is Jeff Cummins from Shawnee KS and, when I saw his 2000 GTP, it was "eye-popping" clean!!!! I saw him detailing a body seam on his vehicle with a toothpick!:D I had never seen a daily driver that clean! Undercarriage!!!!

From that point on, I was never the same!!!:thumbup::thumbup:

For me it was you Angelo and Dana and some advise from Todd ,Plus doing plenty of reading on forums like this .:clap::clap:

I would just like to say to everyone here on TID, that You Are the Wind Beneath My Wings....or somewhere. Seriously, you guys do some great work. I've been inspired by everyone. You all have tremendous skills. I always learn of a new method or product from reading your C&B's. Keep up the great work!!

I grew up pumping gas at my Dad's Humble Oil station when I was tall enough to work the pump and get the nozzle in the filler.
My Dad, and my Grandfather on my Mom's side always had lots of cars and they kept them clean, had all the products to do them, and I learned from them how nice it was to have a freshly cleaned car - dont they all seem to run better when they are clean?? :) :) :)
Also learned alot of stuff from the Body Shop behind our station that my Dad co-owned, and later when I got done with the Military during the war in 'Nam and the Cold War, I worked at another bodyshop as an apprentice painter and shortly after, the painter, until I got back into the Telecom world.
So I would have to say it was in my blood already from my Dad and Grandpa who always encouraged me to make vehicles look better, and then from alot of really great guys on DetailersClub and now here, who have really taken the craft up so many notches !
I still remember back in the late 80's when I first heard about claybars - invented in Japan, etc.. totally changed everything didnt they?
Thanks also, to the great bunch of seemingly tireless bunch here who work really hard at so many things, and still have time to put up great information that we can all learn from..
You guys are GREAT !!

I started doing it on my own. Once I've acquired the knowledge, the know-how, the right products, the right equipment...things just started to work for me
I just like doing it. it's been a great experience.
There's always something new you can learn from each time you do it, and I think that's what keeps me going...

With me it was a mix of a few guys and myself. For one I am a car guy and love seeing an awesome car all clean and shiny :D So I when I got my first car I wanted it to look its best. I didnt always use the best stuff at first so I went searching online for other things.

While on a civic forum im on I came accross RaskyR1's thread on his detailing and was amazed! Decided I wanted to learn how to take my detailing to the next level and researched like crazy!! Joined MOL and met Nick Chapman who was extremily nice to a noob like me and has really helped me understand the art of perfecting paint! Than it is a mix of me reading and reading as much as I can that you guys post and asking you professionals questions to help me slowly get better! :)

I always liked maintaining my car in good condition, but I wouldn't call it detailing.

For me it started at Meguiars Online by looking at the works of a few guys in particular and the attention to detail they put in their work. I regularly exchange PMs with a lot of these guys for tips but I would say the top dogs who really got me excited about detailing are the following:

Joe - Superior Shine
Nick Chapman
Tim Lingor
Kevin Brown
Rasky
Mike Phillips

my dad always kept his cars clean so i suppose i inherited by osmosis. back in those days it was just a wash and wax so i've taken it a step further.

I think sometimes it skips a generation.

You won't find so much as a spec of dust on any of my cars.

I have 4 sons.

I've never seen such a conglomeration of trashed vehicles from one family in my life.

Definitely skipped a generation in their case.

Like others here, it was my Father. His friend wanted his 1929 Bentley Super 8 (Blower Bentley) detailed. I was fourteen and he told me to apply what I'd learned from him and the other detailer's at his dealership (they were real detailer's, not hacks, fifty years ago) I've been addicted ever since

A local detailing center when he looked at my Black Silverado and said 150.00 for claying and 150.00 for glazing and a coat of wax and "even then i dont know if i can take out these swirls". A year later i sold my Dewalt rotary to him for 150.00 and he asked me if i can take some of his customers on and he splits with me..LOL funny guy!! I don't tink so!
