Which wet/dry vac?

My thoughts are to get the 4 gallon and get the Pro Hose kit. That makes a good vac a great vac but also would not fit in the storage area of the Pro Pack unit.

i think ill talk my dad into getting a new shop vac then, since our 2hp 6 gallon one pretty much suck. its hard to maneuver one of those really wide hoses (its like 2"+)

'12 Gallon Wet/Dry Vac - RIDGID Professional Tools\r\n\r\n\r\nGot this one for fathers day this year. \r\n\r\nIt will suck a cat up in no time!\r\n\r\n\r\nSeriously though, this vac is fraking awesome. Storage is an issue since its 12 freaking gallons, but the 5 HP motor is well worth it. Plus I dont have to empty it as often as i did my little 4 gallon one. I use it in the vehicle, house, anywhere. I actually used it to pump water off of my floor when my house flooded this last week. i just hooked up a length of hose to the drain and drained it where I needed to.!\r\n\r\nPlus, it works great for air-drying a motor after washing!'

Don't forget that the hose diameter is 1 7/8 compared to 1 1/4 for the rest of the portable vacs. Finding accessories is limited to ridgid. Shopvac has a cool little micro tool kit similiar to the metro vac one. Excellent for using the vac blower for drying.

I like the battery and or cord powered DeWalt. $100 w/o battery.

It will take 14v or 18v batts. Great wet dry vac. Durable too. Small easy to use and well designed. Filters are reasonable.

I use the DC500 in an industrial application and it holds up well and never has issues.

Very similar to the 4050 is the shop vac from Lowes item #127133. I own both and the 127133 is 5 gallon versus 4 but I can't see much difference in size. The 127133 has a 11.5amp vs the 9amp of the 4050. Both can accomidate much the same types of hoses. The ridid has a lever type hose lock and the Lowes has a twist on type hose. Rigid has lifetime warranty and Lowes is 5years no hassle warranty. I picked up the Lowes as they had it at a lower price $49.95 in the store then the normal $69.95.

the best part about ridgid products is the...

Home Depot has adapters so you can run pretty much any size accessories with the Ridgid.

If I only detail in my garage, and I have a built-in Vacuum with a garage outlet. Will a Wet/Dry Vac provide anything additional to my built-in vacuum? I'd like to shampoo my carpets, but I can't afford an extractor. Will a regular vacuum be enough? will a wet vac help? or do i really need an extractor?

Thanks

No way to know without knowing how powerful your built in vacuum is. Are you sure that using it on wet carpet would be okay? If not, I'd definitely go with a wet/dry vacuum.

Thanks Scott, I'll do more research on the unit and find out.

I just picked up the W4050 and I love it. I previously owned a shopvac with a 4hp 10 gal and it did well but the Rigid seems to have a little something extra and cleaning the mats and interior carpets in my jeep got so much easier! I highly recommend it!

I just picked up the 4050 and it did a great job. I also go the 1 1/4 accessory kit and a micro attachment kit.

Quick question,....does anyone use that muffler/diffuser thing? Is it necessary and does it hurt the performance?
