Which wash besides Z7 to use between coats of Zaino?

I'm running low on Z7 (but well stocked in everything else with the Zaino name on it). I don't want to pay $7 plus the price of the Z7. I know that Sal suggests only using Z7 between coats of Zaino. I want to see if anyone out there regularly uses a non Zaino wash in conjunction with Z5/Z6/Z2pro. I hear a lot of good things about Meguiars Gold Class, and Eagle One Wet. From what I gather, the EOW will leave something behind that provides slickness (teflon?). I assume this is a no-no if you are plan on adding any more coats of Z2pro in the future (hard to stop layering!). What about Meguiars Gold Class? Just looking for some more cost effective over the counter solutions.

i've used everything from stuff you'd find off the shelves at Target and Walmart to wolfgang autobathe, poorboys suds, meguiar's,

and all has been fine.. when i run out of z7 i may try the nxt wash

Any wash that does not contain any protective additives (waxes, polymer waxes, etc.) or gloss enhancing products (i.e. silicones).

As Montoya stated most OTC products without the above mentioned ingredients will work just fine and not effect layering or the protectant already in place.

What you will loss is the excellent cleaning ability of Z7 which is hard to match because most OTC washes are very mild in order to not strip their carnuaba counterpart product.

NXT wash contains polymers if I rememer correctly.

I use Gold Class as it is my prefered wash. Z7 is some good stuff though, wish it was a bigger bottle, as with everything Zaino

Why would you want to use anything but Z7. IMO it works synergistically with the rest of the Z line. I wouldn't use meguiars with FMJ nor would I use it with Souvran. To me its worth it to have the best. Just like protein powders , sure I can get a huge can of something from GNC but the one I use is the best and cost more ,but in the long run its results that count. Do what I did , I sold off some of my other stuff and bought more Zaino.

what is it and why do you think that Z7 will work better than other good car shampoos if you Z your car? Of course the marketing men will want you to believe that their products will work best together but IMHO not always have to be the case (I understand that in theory sticking to the same brand should give you the best result but I think in most cases, it is just marketing talk). btw. I'm currently using Z7 but when the stock runs out, I will not be rushing out to replenish them!

I second the choice of MG GC Shampoo...cheap and good...but that is just me!

I doubt that there is really any synergy apart from the lack of polymers/waxes left behind by Z7 along with its potency. Protein is part of my stack as well and there is no need to pay designer prices. Mine is some of the cheapest, yet best received in the lifting community. I think you'll fine paralels here, with Eagle One and Meguiars GC garnishing rave reviews. With the amount I wash my car, the money I save can be used towards other detailing products.

IMHO, Z7 has qualities that enhance Z2Pro. I do notice the difference between Z7 and other car shampoos. Now, I use OTC washes sometimes and can see the difference.... Z7 contains complimentary agents that enhance the Z2Pro application. And it is very visible.

I disagree there is synergy in using all the components of the Z line. This is based on my personal testing, I have tons of different products as do most Autotopiains and I found when i use Zaino the Z7 leaves my car in the best possible condition. i do not use anything but Z on my car any more ,but I do enjoy trying lots of products on my wifes Van and my truck. For the past couple of months I have been using Souvran on my wifes van and found that best results are from their body work shampoo, same as when I used FMJ best results were with their auto shampoo.

I do however like some of the OTS washes. Mothers Refections and Califorina gold are two of my favorite washes.

I would also be interested in talking with you on protein powders

PM me if you would like to discuss them.

These are exactly the type of responses that I was looking for. If the Z7 is doing something more than just cleaning (and not leaving anything behind), then I will save my money and get some Gold Class or other high quality shampoo. But if you guys insist that there is something left behind that helps with the Z2pro application, then it is definitely worth my while to order a bunch of Z7 at once. I didn't think this was the case, and that's why I asked.

You will probably get a ton more responces because there are a lot of Zaino haters. I know that Zaino products are the best I have ever used, just as i realize there are other really good products out there. Best way it trial and error. Zaino in the long run is more cost efficient IMO.

You probably should stick with Z7 between coats, but once you're done adding coats of Zaino, it wouldn't hurt to use other car washes. I really like 1Z Perls and Poorboy's Super Slick & Suds.
