Which polisher?

New here but I've decided to get a machine polisher. I'm getting lazy and my truck has those fine scratches that only I notice. Especially in certain lighting conditions.

I can't find a PC7424 but have found the 7336sp. The specs show that they're the same unit minus the pad on the 7424.

My idea is to get the 7336 and velcro pad.

The foam pad that comes with the 7424 needs to be changed anyway, correct?

Otherwise the 7424 will be available in 2 weeks or so.

You are on the right path. A lot of us here have the 7336 - there's not much difference except for the counterweights in each machine.

the porter cable 7336 is available at Lowes stores for $99.00 then you need a 6" backing plate and pads for that, read articles and make decision from there, as to size and type of pads and what pads you need, for jobs you plan on doing.

You will want to purchase a quick change backing plate, but my choice was a 5" rather than a 6". The 6" gives you very little tolerance for centering on the velcro of 6.5" pads.
After using the PC for about 30 months, the 5" backing plate still seems like it was a good choice.
:dunno
Another backing plate option would be the Edge system that uses a mechanical quick connect device rather than the Velcro.

I went with the 7336sp. For 2 reasons. 1) Lowes had it in stock. 2) It's cheaper.

I can't see a difference between the two. The machines are identical, they come with the same foam pad(by part #) and the backing plate seems identical.

Just waiting for a dry day to do the job.

Wash
clay bar
wash
polish
wax

Does lowes sell the quick change backing plates? Not sure if you get a velcro plate when you buy the buffer or not. Got an item number or link.

I recently bought my 7336sp from lowe's and ordered the backing plate & pads from one of the Detail City sponsors. Many of them offer some type of start-up kit that includes most, if not all, of the pads you'll need initially. After much research here, that is pretty much the thing to do. You'll have to figure out for yourself what size backing plate and which pads to go with. Good luck!

If you decide on using the 7 1/2" variable contact pads on your PC, the 6" backing plate might actually be a better choice? :dunno
