Which Clay do you use?

Weight is the enemy.
Hey guys, I was wondering what clay everyone uses. I'm having a heck of a time finding anything locally that doesn't look like it's been on the shelf since the invention of clay. Any suggestions?

TUBA

Call Steve or Dwayne and get yours there its not that big a deal and the quality will be what you are looking for!

I buy mine locally but I have a full detail supplier here so I can get the good stuff but not cheap.

I have been using 3M Paint cleaning clay (it's blue) and Schlegel "Gray Ghost" paint cleaning clay ( as the name inplies, it's gray) I have had excellent results with both. I get my clay from Finishmaster, they have a store in my community.

I have Finishmaster here to they must be a national company. That is where I use to get my 3M products to

I'm a fan of Clay Magic. Its nice and sticky so it doesn't slip out of your fingers and fall on the floor. Clay Magic can be found at AutoZone and WalMart usually. You can usually find it at auto body supply shops too. That is where you will find 3M and Meguiar's professional products too.

I've used 3M's blue clay
Erazure Grey
and Sonus' block grey.

I'd recommend the sonus or 3M.

I can get you the 3M from the immke supplier if you'd like. Or you can buy off DC. (probbaly cheaper and in fact i suggest you do, but if you wanted the immediate hook up and wanted to pay more...)

I have a few different kinds that I use and to be honest I don't think there is a big difference between them. Apparently there are only a couple different manufacturers of clay that sell their formulas to all the different detail brands out there. So, it makes sense that there wouldn't be much variation in the clay...

On a seperate note, has anyone tried Optimum's clay? 10 bucks for 4 oz is a pretty good price...

Adam's Clay. There are 2 manufacturers: Erazer and Clay Magic. Erazer stuff is way mroe elasticly and holds just enough. I wanna try Poorboy's next!

Tried Adam's VS Mothers. Adam's wins in every way. Adam's you can bend it silly and it won't crumble in consistency. It actually pulls more than the Mothers, I noticed so on a rental daily driver when the contaminants weren't coming out enough. Adam's in size is twice the size as Mother's. It comes with its own container. Very happy with it! I would say Mother's is a very good local bar, but Adam's is more specialized and comforting.

I'll be in a minority here, but I like speed clay from diamondite. It cleans great. I've never scratched a car with it - can't say the same for regular clay. It's pretty inexpensive now from autogeek. It is a leap of faith to use that sponge for the first time though! :eek

I get the cheapest. Basically, they are all the same. I think I bought (in bulk) 5 bars for 9.95 each. They work very well. I just don't see the advantage of buying a $30 clay bar if only 2 different companies actually manufacture them all.

TD, I've personally talked to both of the mentioned clay manufacturers and you would be surprised in the amount of differeneces between them.....quality clay is the way to go!

i've bought both mothers clay and megs clay locally at this shop that seems to have a lot of products (its a supermarket!), but i have to say that i like clay magic the best. i have no idea what makes clay magic better than the other two, but i do seem to feel a difference. its almost as if clay magic is a bit softer to the touch or something. i feel that megs clay and mothers clay are so hard, its like rubbing a rock against your car. however, clay magic seems to be very soft, and nice to the touch. about the clay magic, i couldnt really find it locally, but of course, the one stop place to get a lot of cool detailing products in hawaii, ranney, had it.
