Which clay bar work best with self made lub?

I had a old dark grey claybar that is sticky and work very well with shampoo and water. However, the Sonus's clay bar break down small pieces very quickly. Do you know which brand of claybar will work well with self made lub?

Heh heh, until I read your post I would've said "Sonus" :D

Must be the soap/clay combo. Sonus works OK for me with Griot's Car Wash but other clays turn soupy.

For those of you having trouble with your clay getting mushy when you use a quick detailing spray, the basic problem is that most QD sprays contain some amount of alcohol. The alcohol disolves the clay.

What QD sprays don't contain alcohol? I have Z18 claybar and I am wondering what should I use as a lube. I thought about using a QD, but I am not sure which one. Does anyone have any suggestions on a QD or should I just follw the Z18 instructions and use Z7 and water?

Sorry about the misspell.

I used Meg GC. The GC really brake down Sonus's clay bar fast. The car I was working with was only a few months old Camry.

Well...I will try PB SSS next time to see.

Actually, I didn't even notice any misspelling :D Guess I worded that reply weirdly, I just meant that I would've recommended the Sonus except that's what you were having trouble with. See if the PB's shampoo makes a difference.

I use the Mothers clay bars with NXT and distilled water mix for lube. It works well for me. After doing a whole car, I do start to get some clay that sticks to my hand.

I use Mothers claybar usually with Mothers Showtime but If I run out of showtime I use QEW and that works fine.

I can't tell you what products do and don't. Most do.

I recommend that you follow the instructions you get with the brand of clay you use. If you don't like the results, look for a different solution.

I didnt have any problems using the Sonus Clay and Megs GC soap. Ii work just as well as clay lube.

I still have some of the Sonus lube. I try out both tomorrow to see if there is a difference.

How much water did you mix with Meg GC? Mine is kind of heavy. Around 2 oz GC with 16 oz water.

I did not really measure that well. Probably closer to 1oz. I used enough to make sure I saw some suds when spraying the car, then tested an area with the clay and looked for scratches.

The clay was still very firm after kneeding the piece several times. I also used the same pieces on my rims.

Sonus Block and Glyde lube are my favorites in this area but Claymagic does a fine job as well. I like using the created for it lubes better myself.

Yesterday I used Sonux claybar with Poorboy's shampoo instead of Meg GC and the claybar did NOT break down. It holded up very good.

The previous problems that I had may be something to do with the shampoo mixture ratio. May be too much of the GC.

Due to the alcohol of QDs breaking down the clay, it sounds like now a car wash mixture should always be used. I had thought just the opposite was the case: car wash breaks down the clay  Any way, I like the idea of saving QD and just making a car wash clay lube.

Personally I love pinnacles Yellow Clay bar. They are very stretchy and highly elastic, work great with a lube of QD your choice and I use it exclusively with soap and water, It has never fallen apart and it cleans like no other
