Where to purchase Cheap Clay bars...

Now for the past couple months I've been using Pinnacle's Poly Ultra clay and I've been buying it buy the pound from Autogeek... Here is the link

Pinnacle Ultra Poly Clay is our ultra fine grade of detailing clay, designed for frequent, gentle cleaning of your vehicle.

Not only is it expensive, but after using this clay for a while now, it seems that its really fine and it has some trouble taking out heavier spots. For example, I just clayed a section of my Dad's WHITE Toyota Tundra, and I wasn't able to get all of the black specs off, and I was wondering if it was just because it may be very fine grade clay????

So my main question, is where do you guys purchase clay from, and where can I buy it in similar amounts (4 bars)??? I also wanted to know if the different grades of clay really mattered, or if harsher grades will actually mar the paint?

It just always seems like I have everything else but clay, and I wanted to stock up on some cheap, but effective clay. Any help would be appreciated!

im on my way to napa and advanced auto parts, i will see if they have the clay magic there and let you know.

oh, griots sells a pretty good clay bar from what i hear and its relatively inexpensive for the amount you get.

Everyone seems to use claymagic when they're looking for cheap and effective clay bars. I've been using the Mother's clay bar, which is fine. Meguiars is also a relatively cheap clay.

Go on ebay and search clay bars.

There is a guy on there that has a ebay store, selling detailing stuff and has clay(re-dyed and re-labeled clay magic i think) , its like a purplish color. 5 200 gram bars for like 28 bucks shipped to your door. Good stuff too, i got some. Its a medium grade clay, works good on white paint for fallout and raildust.

*edit*

Heres a link to one of his auctions. Its 40 now shipped to your door for 5 of the 200 gram bars which is still a heck of a deal. He also has auctions for single bars, 3,5,10 and 50. If you use alot of clay then buy 50 of them at one time brings the cost way way down.

Generally the clay on ebay is somewhat cheap. I've never tried it, but others seem to say that the quality isn't all that great.

How can you say that the clay on ebay is generally cheap and also say that you haven't used it before? If you have no experince with the product how in the world can you give out advice on it?

Cheapest good clay I have been able to find is at "Autozone", $10.00 for clay bar and lubricant.

I use Clay Magic from Autozone. Like the above poster said $10 for clay and lube can't be beat. I will remove everything I have come across so far.

Hey, calm down. The fact that the clay on ebay is cheap is heresay advice. I never told the OP not to buy the ebay clay, I'm just saying that I've heard from other autopians that they haven't been successful with ebay clay. I wasn't telling the OP not to buy it. Sorry if I offended you.

The Clay Magic kit is on sale in the Autopia store for $7.99. It comes with clay, lube, and a MF towel. Pretty good deal.

that white ebay clay will mar the hell out of your paint, so only use it when you are at least two stepping...

the purple stuff from ebay is a good buy, but again, you need to polish after for sure, and the purple tends to dry out rather quickly and fall apart when using car soap as a lube...I dont know about useing a QD or ONR as the lube...

i have tried both - and I like the sonus grey for major decon, and megs blue to minor stuff

Wow, I was about to post a very similar thread a few days ago, but never got around to it. My problem is, I have a whole bottle of Meg's QD, but could use new clay, and was wondering if there was a better way to buy it than the $11 clay magic kit that has QD I don't need.

if the car isn't in bad shape the deal autopia has on the green clay is pretty good...

Plus, you get the free grey clay for cars that are worse off, all 3 bars for 18.00...

Pete

Great link, looks like I might be trying out some Sonus Clay here pretty soon.

After reading up on some of the info about the clay sold off of Ebay, I'm a little hesistant and I may stick to something more mainstream. I wouldn't want to risk putting any more defects in a car than already present and I really just wanted to try out a different grade of clay than Pinnacle's version!

The clay from the seller mentioned above that I receive is grey. I only bought 5 bars. Used it on 5-10 cars and I had no marring. I would have bought more if I had bought 15 Sonus Green bars a few weeks before. I was expecting a white clay from the picture but probably just the camera or flash unless others have received white bars.
