when to add touchup paint?

i have a 2005 WRX and i need to use some touchup paint on some paint chips on the hood from your usualy rocks while driving etc. When do i do this? I assume i should wash the car, then do the touchup paint, let it dry completly, and then go ahead with the complete detailing i was planning on doing soon, consisting of wash, clay, polish, and wax. Is this right?

I think it depends on the touchup paint but I know that I got touchup paint for my 2005 WRB STI from paintscratch.com and they suggest not to apply wax for 30 days. Also you will have to properly prep the area with a good wax remover if there is any on there so the paint will bond correctly. :up
