wheel shields?

A few years ago I saw a product at an autoshow that covers the wheel, allowing you to use an aerosol tire spray without getting any on the wheel itself. I think they are no longer in business though :(

The only other one i've seen is this pathetic one: Wheel Shield

Are there any companies that make ones for cars that have wheels made this century? like 18"+ ??

There's this one: Wheel Shield

But that's for last century too. As far as I know they still make cardboard and broomsticks, tho. I think you could make one. Get some of those disposable plastic bowls with the rim on them, double a couple up, cut a hole in the middle of your cardboard, and push the bowls thru and glue the rim to the cardboard. Then you need to attach the broomstick to the bowl...hmm, maybe that's too much. The others are hand-held, you can just cut some finger holes in the cardboard, and throw it out when it gets too "dressed".

I actually have one of those TOL jobs and I used it once (and then changed to wiping on my dressing...or improved my aim with the aerosol...most wheels don't seem affected by it)...it's still sitting on my bench because I can't figure out what to do with it...doesn't seem right to fold it back up like they show when it's (potentially) got dressing on it and there doesn't seem to be a good way to clean it since it's fabric.

I don't recommend spraying tire dressing on anyways, you'd be better off just putting it on with a sponge, and you won't need a shield.

I know the aerosols aren't for everybody. I primarily use them on SUV's, especially ones with Goodyears. I hate those tires, or I should say, I hate the overly--partterned sidewalls.

Back on topic though....

Cardboard is difficult to cut in a perfect circle, and it looks cheap and won't last long as it gets soaked with tire shine... Looking for something more professional and durable. Its gotta be out there....

+1, spray foams will get on your paint, even if there is no wind. YMMV

Just get a large piece of cardboard and cut it to fit. Cut a hole in the middle for a handle and you are good to go. I have them made for all of my different tire sizes.

I made my own out of plexi-glass. You can go to a tire shop and get some various size rims to use as your outline. All tire shops have junk rims around to trace. I drilled two holes through the plexi-glass and attached some handles almost like kitchen cabinet handles.

I like that idea a lot! Unfortunately I don't have anything to make a nice cut on plexiglass.

Yeah, if I can't find anything better I might get that. Gosh I wish i still had a pic of the one i saw!! It was better than anything presented so far by a long shot.
