wheel problem

so I bought 4 used konig uknown wheels and two of them look great while the other two look dull. The two that are dull feel a little grainy and are not nearly as shiny as the other two. Its almost like they have a thin protective wax coating over them. Any suggestions on how I can get them nice and shiny like the other two rims

if they're aluminum then they probly oxidized and just need to be polished

even the good rim looks a little bad, I use SSR 2.5 and a cotton towel in the black part and my rotary with 4" polis pad on the rest. If you don't have a machine polisher I would purchase a Flitz polising ball kit for use with a drill and use some SSR 2.5

I would start with a good cleaning with a pretty strong cleaner like Poorboy's Spray and Rinse or Four Star's ACC. Rather than just rinse though I would agitate the surface with a soft wheel brush and see if that cleans up the surface.

I would use a Flitz polishing ball and use Flitz polish on the wheel, lol. That stuff is incredible if you've never used it.

my two cents


i think that the person that sold you the wheels accidentally used and acid type cleaner and ruined the wheels. I think then they tried to remove the protective coating/clear that they come with from the manufacturer. i also think that they figured it was too much work to remove the coating and decide to sell them. there are striping chemicals that you can use to remove the coating. However, you will have to keep polishing the wheels and a regular basis to keep them from oxidizing. When the clear is in good shape the cleaning is pretty easy soap and water with a little brushing keeps them clean. if you decide to strip the coating of the other wheels make sure you apply a sealant after you polish the wheel. If you do not then you will start to see white spots or small pits from oxidation.
