New guy here located in the Chicago suburbs, lookin to hopefully start a mobile detail business soon. I have been reading a lot on the different forums and learning a great deal. Thanks to all for sharing your advice and experiences, they have allowed a guy like me to research this business before I jump in feet first.

Welcome!

It's getting darn cold to be starting a mobile business. Brrrrr It's all of 37 deg. here. lol

Welcome to the site from Sonoma County CA

Pretty cold time of the year to start a mobile biz out your way

The only experience that I have is on my own vehicles. And yes it is very cold out here right now, I'm hoping that I can take this time of the year to get my ducks in a row, and take care of some personal buisness so that I can have my buisness up in running come spring.

You might want to get a job working for someone else first and getting some experience other than on your own vehicles. Working on other people's neglected vehicles can pose some difficult problems:eek:
You also take on a great liability when you work on problem vehicles. Your time and money would be best used if you knew there were few problems you haven't encountered before.
Starting a new business is expensive, risky and many fail due to poor planning or a lack of a market or client base. Think it through thoroughly and good luck :bigups

I agree with Steve here...if there is a dealership that you can learn at, that would be a great training ground

I completely agree with both you guys in that I need some more experience. Unfortunately I have a full time job that does not allow me to work with someone esle for additional training. I'm looking to go to a training course or two as well as get some pratice on cars at a local junk yard. I think I can get some valuable training at a junk yard without the risk of causing damage to someone elses car. I'm sure there are some serious challenges as well with damage to junked cars as well. I also plan on working on some family members and friends cars for even more experience. I know that my goal to get my buisness up and runnig by spring, but I also know that I need to be realistic with my goals as well. As for now realisticly I am looking to start my mobile detailing on a part time basis, that way I don't bite off more than I can chew and it will allow me to gain more experience. I feel that training and experience will go a long way in helping my buisness succeed. I do not take this buisness venture lightly. I realize there is a great risk in this venture which is why I have been doing a lot of research the past few months and have decided to really focus on training. I feel that the more training and experience that I gain before I start my buisness, will enable me to provide the customer with a high level of quality work. That is how I plan to set myself apart from my competition. I do not want to be what I have seen some guys call a "hack", I want my buisness to be professional in every aspect, from my appearance down to my quality work. With that said my plan is still a work in progress, so for now I will continue to research and start looking to get some additional training. I appreciate the feedback and welcome any additonal advice that anyone may have to offer. :thanks
