What's stronger than ScratchX (OTC)?

My new ride has a few clear coat scratches on the hood. Rather than having the dealer mess it up more, I wanted to correct them myself. They are not too bad. I tried ScratchX, and this didn't completely correct them. I applied several times, at various amounts of pressure (by hand). Is 3M Scratch & Swirl Remover more harsh? They aren't very noticeable -- unless you bend over, and look at an angle. The color is Ford Redfire Metallic. What other OTC product should I try? If I do mail order, would OC (or OP) be the best to try (by hand)?

Thanks! Similar color even. That was a great article. Mine aren't swirls -- but scratches -- like an object struck the hood. I guess the same can apply. My scratches are more like the deeper ones left over. I'm probably hosed. ScratchX did help some -- and seemed to fair well in the test. I'm looking for an abrasive -- not filling product.

When working in straight lines, should they be perpendicular to the scratches?

SctratchX I would say in all directions. Just like a PC would do. If you need to wet sand it, go in the same direction as the scratch.

I had same issue..new car with scratches on hood of clear coat. I tried scratch x no help. Check out my TOPIC in the click and brag section called Newbie w/great results using PC. I have pics posted of my scratches as well so you can compare to yours. I hope it helps?

If working by hand, I'd *absolutely* get some 1Z Paint Polish from either ExcelDetail or PaKshack (sorry, no links handy on this borrowed PC). I simply wouldn't do the job without that stuff.
