I'm opening a new fixed shop and I'm looking at two programs for tracking jobs but they are very expensive.

Wintac Pro

ServiceCeo

What is a good program for a start up that is a little better priced for entry level ?

If you have a Windows Mobile equipped cell phone, the Calendar/Contacts/Outlook system on there is enough to track your customers and produce reminders to you at 3, 6, whatever month intervals when it's time to contact them. And, importantly...it's always with you.

I'm looking for a program that will track everything like payroll,

appointments, marketing etc..

can't go wrong with quickbooks. Took me awhile to bite at it but once I did I kicked myself in the arse for not doing it sooner. It does everything from inventory to payroll to keeping track of your vendors clients and creditors. Very customizable and perfect for the start up business.

I use Quickbooks Pro w/ their payroll service and the database program, all 2005 versions. I also use Excel for some other nerdy type analysis.

I run service CEO. It has some cool features but it is by far the single most annoying and complicated thing in my life. I bought it for $1600 4 years ago and then paid $300 a year since to get tech support ,etc....

I am into it deep. I am about to dump it and go back to quick books.

QuickBooks is probably the best selling small business accounting software on the market. Most other vendors support Intuit's QuickBooks. So you can download information from other parties such as checking account activity. Plus since it is so popular there are some great tips all over the web.

For contact management like trusted detail's suggestion of using Outlook. You probably have it on your PC already. If you want something more robust take a look at ACT. I has everything you could want in a contact management system and it is easy to learn. You can also synch your calender and contacts from ACT to a Blackberry, Palm, or Microsoft Mobile cell phone.

Just a note I am not a professional detailer but I work with small business owners all the time. Even some mid sized companies with multiple locations use QuickBooks.

Weighing into the majority vote. Quickbooks! My wifes an accountant and book keeper. Can't tell you how many times she's taken complex supposed wonder packages for a niche market and ripped them out and put Quickbooks back in. It's inexpensive, does payroll, all book keeping needs and tax preparers import files just fine. I run 3 business's on it.

Voted: Quickbooks
