What's at the bottom of your invoices? (disclaimers, etc?)

I'm looking at printing off my invoices (I get back the GST I spend on products) and I was wondering on the invoices that you provide (when needed of course) what is at the bottom and what is the standard legal disclaimer/warranty that I would use?

I know this is a very specific and forward question, but it would be nice to protect myself in someway without consulting a lawyer and I assume that the disclaimer is similar depending on the services provided.

If this is something I should consult my lawyer about, then that's alright then, but if there are some suggestions, please don't hesitate to let me know.

First off, make sure you are properly insured. Second, become an LLC so that your personal assets can not be taken in the event you are sued. Other than that, I see no need to add disclaimers and such on an invoice.

I have been in business for 6 years and had never had a disclaimer on an invoice. I also collect and remit the G.S.T and I used to put the G.S.T number on the invoices but not for that last few years. I have never had a problem with a BS claim in that time and with all those cars. Two vehicles were damaged by employees over those years but I paid for them because it was my companys fault. One was a brand new bently azure. "lucky me"....lol

As far as insurance ....GET IT.... you never know.. If you really tailor a policy good insurance can be affordable.

Any particular insurance that I should get? I notice you operate in the GTA so I mean if you don't mind me asking, what exactly should I be looking at? Should I incorporate myself or remain a sole proprietorship?

It's just bad business sense to remain a sol/prop. At the very least go with an LLC. (usually nothing more is needed unless your planning on creating a franchise of shops) Being a sol/prop means if someone sues your business they also get to sue you. Meaning if you loose you can loose your own personal assest (cars houses bank accounts etc etc) And it cost me all of $50 to become an LLC. So it's minimal investment to protect your assests.

Go to your state's webite. There you will find all the info you need to become a Limited Liability Corp. It's fast, easy and painless and everyone who details for $$ should do it. As for insurance - liability ins. and garage keepers ins. should cover you just fine. Just shop, shop, shop for the best price. As for your original queston - I would never use a professional detailer that felt the need to put a disclaimer on their invoice. If you go over the vehicle with the customer before any work is done and note preexisting damage and photograph said damage then you shouldn't have any worries.
