To protect your investment, as much as you can. A car is a steeply depreciating asset, maintaining it cosmetically and mechanically lessens the money you have to spend per day to drive it.

Not sure if this would prove to be catchy, but...

The reason I wash/wax a car is to provide a "sacrficial barrier" between the expensive car and the elements. And If I do it _right_, it'll make it look better than new as well.

Because it brings a smile to my face when I walk out to my car and see it nice and freshly polished and waxed.

Plus it if it's got a good layer of wax on it, I find it doesn't get as dirty as fast.

Why do you wash your clothes? Why do you (sometimes) brush your teeth? Because you want to look your best. You want to make a good impression. Because you care.

Because people form their first impressions by appearances.

If a vendor or potential employee pulls up in a slovenly car, the mental impression that I form is that this person is not concerned about appearances or results, is lazy, disorganized, and unable to manage his time efficiently. It may not be a fair assesment of this person, but it will be the first impression formed.

In addition, I simply feel better driving around in a clean car. Some people feel better in new clothes, I feel better in a new-looking car.

Simply my $0.02.
