What's a fair price to charge?

I've recently been approached by a guy that like me to detail his wife's Saturn Vue. I've never done a detail for anyone before besides family, so I'm not sure on what would be a fair price to cover everything and my time. The guy just wants to have the typical wash, wax, interior detailed, and the exterior trim dresses. I haven't seen it yet, but have been told it is in good shape. Most people have different perceptions of good, than most who are really into detailing though.:) Right now I'm leaning towards $80-$100, since I'm guessing it will take me anywhere from 4-5 hours depending on the condition. What do you all think, is this too low or should I be asking a little more?

By the hour you are making $20. Not bad, but whats in your arsenal? Do you have to travel? Most importantly what does it look like. Never take the customers word for what it looks like. You need to look at it before you gice a conrete quote. For myself on this particular car min would be $200.

$50 per hour is what I base my pricing on right now...next year it goes up and the following year it will go up again...for two reasons...

1 - i keep finding better products that cut time

2 - the results are worth it

You guys aren't being rational. This guy is just starting to do other vehicles you can't tell him to charge 50.00 an hour you guys have been doing this a lot longer than him therefore you have more experience. I would honestly say to start your services at 30-35 dollars an hour. You also have to take what type of area your in as well. It's all about the market. For you starting you should probably charge 75-80.00. It shouldn't take you 4-5 hours for a wash , wax interior. Should take about 2- 2.5 hours. Good Luck to you.

Have you seen the car and if so, what does it look like? See if you can convince him to do 1 step polish, explaining why a polishing step before waxing is good for the car.

having recently done one....

wash - 25 min

wax - 10 min with OCW, or 20 with machine applied sealant

interior - based on condition, but anywhere from 1 hour to 3 hours

exterior trim - 10 min

tires - 5 min

handing him the keys back and talking, getting paid, planning next detail - 30 min.

total work time - 2 hours or so...

price charged...base it on what you want to make per hour and charge it...

I haven't given the guy a price on it yet. He was fine with that since he really wants me to do it, and he was in no rush to get it done. I'm not saying anything for sure until I see it in person. I really don't think that he's looking for an absolute correction and perfection job, nor does he want to spend $200. I think he's just more intersted in it being cleaned up. The guy only lives a couple miles from me, so I'll be doing the detail at his house. If he has his own wash soap or mitts that he would like used on it, I'll use them also to save on my materials.

I figured I would start with quick wash, 1 step polish, carnuba wax, trim & tire dress, along with an interior window clean, interior dress, and vacuum. If he would like more or less than this, it'll affect the price. So this is just a basic clean IMO, and not a full out detail.

Waht do you all get for a wash, wax, and an interior vacuum?
