What wheel cleaner do you Professionals use?

I've been using P21s wheel cleaner, but am finding that to be too expensive.

What product, that you can get locally, would you use?

I see Meguiars has a Gold Class version wheel cleaner as well as Eagle One A2Z.

What do you recommend that is definately safe for all wheel finishes? Or what general all purpose cleaner do you use (if any) that is dilluted?

Thanks.

I use Gold Class, Jngrbrd uses A2Z.

Of the two I actually prefer A2Z, doesnt smell as nasty or sting like buggery when it gets somewhere sensitive.

Think bulk products, cheaper, gets the job done, and don't have to keep buying small bottles.

Meguiar's All Purpose Cleaner + is a good deal. Not sure where to get it ocally though. Only around $11 a gallon........

The Meguiars you use, is that the same one that describes that it is meant for people who don't know what their wheels are made of? It says that on the back. Just want to be sure because I bought it at Target for $5.

APC? I thought that is like industrial strength?! I'd be nervous to use that. I'd rather dillute EFHI 3:1.

Mines the 'dont use on bare aluminium' one.

Its empty now tho .. so I wont be getting any more.

Actually the other reply made me think - I've got a gallon of APC+ sat in my detailing store.... what sorta dilution works best ?

According to the dilution ration on the back, 4:1 for wheels and tires. A good dilution, but I find 8:1 to work just as well.

Simple Green does it for me. $8 a gallon and can be diluted or used full strength for tougher jobs.

For real nasty wheels I like to use Top of the Lines "Safe Wheel Cleaner" and my steam vapor cleaner.

Bumpers Plus,

I use a very outdated Eureka steam vapor cleaner. I may bite the BIG bullet and get a $1200 machine in the near future or just get a new $120 machine from Costco.

The pricey machine though puts out more heat, holds more water and delivers the steam at a higher pressure. The draw back is an extra $900......HMmmmmm, tough choice.

These machines work great though for wheels. I did a Lexus the other day and after I washed it and pulled it over to an area to be detailed I noticed the wheel wells were still a bit dirty. Pull out the steam vapor cleaner and clean those areas without a huge mess!

None. QEW does the job very well. The steam cleaner sounds interesting though...

Honestly, I don't think wheel cleaners work any better than your regular car wash soap and it is much less likely to damage the wheel's finish.

Stoner's Tire and Wheel Cleaner. I started using a pressure washer this year. I can actually get the rims clean without any cleaners. Plus it's much quicker than using a detail brush.

Eagle ONe A2Z in the orange bottle. I tried Griots Wheel Cleaner and didnt care for it. On the tires I use Eagle One in the Black bottle.

Just tried E1 A2Z and it worked great. I did hose the tires off first just in case it was too strong and it worked really well. The break dust and brownish stuff from the tire came off in about 15 seconds.

I use a wheel cleaner called Magnum , made by Car Products of Springfield, Ma. It is similar to Automagic's "Magnificent" wheel cleaner. I buy it by the gallon, and it can be diluted up to 4 to 1 and still clean nicely. I spray it on, wait about a minute, then use my pressure washer to remove the product. The wheels come out nice and clean!

Do you just use the QEW full strength or something, Scott? I just did a 95 Accord Sat. which has never been washed. 9 years of brake dust on the wheels. I used A2Z full strength and had to use a reall stiff tooth brush to work the stuff loose. After spending a 1/2 hour on them, I still ended up using a mild green scrubbing pad to break the worst stuff loose.

I just couldn't imagine carwash of any sort in diluted strength doing anything there.
