What wax on new truck

I just purchased a new 07 chevy avalanche in dark gray met.(graystone). It has never been waxed. I want the best wax, sealer for the best wet look and durability. I will also be doing this by hand. It will not matter how many coats. I want something that will get better with the amount of coats used. Since I am a newby here. Please no abreviations as I probably would not understand. Also I need to know were to purchase these items.

Okay, as many will reply, there is no "best" wax. It really depends on what you want. Do you want good looks or durability? Do you want a wax or sealant?

If you are totally new to this whole detailing obsession, I suggest that you start slowly with products that are easy to find at your local auto store -- Auto Zone, O'Reilly's, etc. For over-the-counter products you simply cannot beat Meguiar's products. I have used them almost exclusively for 45 years.

I notice that you live in Idaho. You had better get something on that new Escalade pronto. First clay it with Meguiar's detailing clay to remove any contaminants. Then use Meguiar's Cleaner/ Wax or Meguiar's ColorX to both polish and put a layer of wax on the new truck. As a final step apply Meguiar's NXT. This will get you through the winter for sure. I have a 2007 Dodge Hemi. I got by without claying or applying NXT. I was short on time and simply used ColorX. I did this over a month ago and the finish is still looking mighty good.

Good luck.

Waxes will not give you the best durability, Synthetic sealants will. If you live thru harsh winters, a sealant would be my choice. Go to the top of the board, click the "review" button and then click on sealants...Study that for a day, then click on waxes, study a little more. Get familiar with the product names..Take your time then come back and ask about what intrigues you the most. Because asking this question is like asking who your favorite football team is, you'll get a plethera of different products.

Meguiars #16 and Collinite's waxes are as durable as many sealants, and IMO, offer superior protection from the elements. The durability edge really isn't so cut and dried.

Goose2-for your color, you will probably be happiest with a sealant or with a wax like Collinite 845 or (if you can find it) Meguiars #16 that doesn't impart a darkness of its own. I am sure you chose a metallic paint because you want the metallic to be as visible as possible and anything that will darken the paint will make the metallic a bit less obvious.

If you were a customer of mine, I'd use either Meguairs #16 if you wanted a carnauba and Werkstatt's Prime and Acrylic Jett if you preferred a sealant.

Also, I wouldn't worry about layering. Beyond two applications for complete coverage, I haven't seen a worthwhile improvement in appearance or durability from any product, unless you want to count the distortion that seems to increase depth when you apply many coats of a carnauba, and even then, any durability improvement is negligible.

I believe that Welcome to Excel! has Collinite and JEFFS Werkstatt: the finest in automotive detailing wax and sealants has Werkstatt products.
