What wax do you use?

This question is mainly for the mobile detailers out there, but would also like to hear from those working out of a fixed site also. I am looking for a good wax to use that can be easily applied and buffed off and won't stain trim. I have a pneumatic orbital that I would like to use for application and hand wax all the areas that the tool can't reach. It also must be able to be used in the sun.

I don't have anything against them, but am I limited to strictly waxes in liquid form?

Must be used in the sun? Poorboy's EX w/carnauba works great in the sun. I haven't had any trim staining problems either.

OSW is great for sun use, just wipe it off quick or else it'll take forever. It's not so much the sun but rather the heat the panel's generating. If it's cold out side and you're doing it in the sun then you'll be safer of course.

I haven't tried Optimum spray wax (funny since I literally have everything else of theirs!), but as Scott said, Poorboy's works well if you have to use it in the sun.

I've tried several and keep coming back to Collinite 845. Easy on/off and no prob with sun. Durable too, especially given our climate (barrier island with salt air extraordinaire)

Don't generally use liquid waxes, but I agree with Scott. PB's EX and EX-P sealants work nicely in the sun... That is about all I used in liquid...

Oh, and PwS.....good stuff

I typically use OCW (which somehow is also dubbed as OSW) and it buffs off pretty easily and doesn't stain trim. There really is no need for a PC for this stuff. Just grab a MF and wipe off after you spray.

I find myself reaching for either Finish Kare Pink Wax or CG 50:50 Paste most of the time. Dip a black LC pad into the tin, toss it on the PC and you're good to go. I find that I use significantly less product with pastes.

I would think customers would be a little concerned to see a spray wax being used for a service that they are paying quite a bit extra for, over just a standard wash. I know if I were on the other end and was instead the customer as opposed to the detailer, I would be thinking to myself... " I just paid x amount of dollars to have some guy spray some liquid on my car and wipe it off."

I guess this would be ok if you just let the customer know ahead of time that this particular service includes "just" a spray wax and only charge like $10 extra or so in addition to a regular wash. Most customers probably want to see the typical apply and buffing off of either liquid or paste wax and would most likely feel a bit cheated if they witnessed the use of the spray wax.

Also, the tool that I will be applying the wax with is a random orbital air powered 5" sander purchased at Northern Tool., in which the throttle is controlled by the palm of your hand. This is much easier to use to apply lsp's versus using the PC.

Have you used your orbital yet? I know with our little 3" unit it takes a two tank 6HP compressor to keep them running. The last time we looked into normal 5"/6" models they required an 8 HP 30 gallon tank as a minimum. Be hard to do mobile without a trailer.
