What to use to clean these wheels

My 03 cobra has a machine style finish with a clearcoat on it. I'm looking to mostly get the fronts cleaner since the back are somewhat newer. Would a APC like simple green work? I just don't want to ruin them...

i use a wheel cleaner from detailplus, non acid safe for every type of wheel and does an amazing job with little effort, be careful with some APC, they can be caustic and could leave white stains on your rims

i would just use soap and water. those rims can be damaged eaisly even with wheel cleaners that say safe for all types of rims. sweet car too man!

use the same stuff you would use on your paint

even the the wax/sealant

I agree. If you do this regularly (pull the wheels once a month or every other month to get the back of the rim really good), keeping them clean with carwash soap & water is easy.

Another vote for soapy water.

After that if not clear coated I like to spray them down with Dirtex, it's a good metal/chrome cleaner. Get Dirtex at Lowes.

I would also recommend waxing them regularly.

^what they said. Simple green is REALLY strong, especially a full strength. It will discolor some metals if in contact with said metals too long.

nice cobra btw. Needs to be lowered :grinno:

That is what I have been doing lately. Actually, I have been saving the tires for last, don't know how "proper" this is, but after washing the car, I take my old mit and use them on the tires/rims, while I still have soap water left in the bucket.

The problem with doing the wheels last is that you give the water left on the car from the rinse a lot more time to dry & possibly cause some nasty spotting. Actually, I have a separate bucket that I use for the wheels/tires. If the tires are especially dirty, I'll clean the rims w/regular soap, then spray the mitt with a strong APC, scrub the tires & then use the wash bucket as the "rinse" bucket for the mitt. If the rims are extra dirty, I just follow the wash with a cleaner wax...less is best.

I use diluted Griot's Wheel Cleaner 1-2 times per month, but all my wheels are sealed with KSG (x2) before going on. The other times I clean the wheels, I use regular car shampoo.
