What to do when going to court for a ticket?

I just saw this thread for the first time and I was going to write a one word answer to your question: LAWYER

Pay serious heed to this, fellow Autopians! I have a lawyer, he helped me get a "not responsible" last September. Now I just got 2 tickets in the last 3 weeks (neither in my Boxster, BTW). They say trouble runs in threes...

My lawyer will get these fixed also...but very expensive. Sad to say, but I have less and less respect for the police because of these incidents. I just ordered a Valentine One detector this morning. So, for me, 2 words: LAWYER and DETECTOR.

By the way, since we're bringing this thread back from the dead, I wanted to add that those other 2 tickets were each dismissed with a "not responsible." Kudos to my lawyer, especially for the first of those (a 52 in a 30).

The lights you see in your rear-view mirror are either the sound of $2,000-3,000 leaving your wallet over the six years, or $500 for a good attorney. By the way, it is a GREAT feeling to have a professional by your side to defend you. The last ticket I was the only person of the last half-dozen to walk out of the room with a smile on my face. As the depressed looking people waiting to go in saw me and my lawyer walk by, I overheard one saying, "Gee, I guess its a good thing to have your own lawyer."

Amen!

Good analogy. It does make sense, I never thought about hiring an attorney to fight a speeding ticket until you put it in those terms. Of course it all depends on how cheap of an attorney you can find. The price of a good one might not be worth it, it might be cheaper to just pay the cost over the years in insurance increases. Conversely if hire a cheapo attorney you might lose the case and still get stuck with paying an attorney's fee...

I never heard of it giving speeders cancer, I thought it only posed a health risk to the cops?

My post was not based on any personal knowledge. If there was any potential of harming the drivers, I'm sure they would be banned pretty quickly for fear of lawsuits. Again, just guessing.
