Here is their response. So in short we still don't know..Unless the megs forum was right.

Looks like Griot's did a lot of work on this one ... then again... maybe not

The only difference looks like is the dust collection bag - which I guess is considered specifically designed for Griots... but it doesn't seem like they designed as much as they said in the emial...

I can't imagine that Griot's would have them design a sander to polish cars with. You would think that it would have been more suited for car polishing and left that stupid dust thing off. What good is that going to do for a car? Griot's is full of crap if they think I'm going to believe they designed that thing.

Griot's Garage = PRIVATE LABELS

Buy low priced items, put on Griot's Garage sticker, sell for much higher price, tell people to have fun.

LOL! That's what I was thinking.

c'mon... some PC clone made in china with a bolted on backing plate couldn't possibly be low priced and easily available for private labeling.

I forgot to mention it not only has the 4 screw backing plate it can't be modified to work with the current Edge 2K line up.

Now..If you want to order a case of them 18 pieces..you may be able to get them for 20.00 apiece...custom built ....lol...

Looks like a stronger PC version, who cares, rotary power! PC is meant really to do light polishing, glazing, and waxing. Great price though for this unit.

I don't know if it is worth it though. The PC 7424 goes 2,500-6,000 OPM and this one is 4,000-7,000 OPM. I think I would miss that bottom 1500 OPM and probably not use that top 1000 OPM as much anyway. Besides, weighing in at nearly 3/4 of a pound more than the PC and having an awkward handle to boot, I don't like it. I also don't like that you can't adapt it to the Edge 2000 system. I also wouldn't be able to use the sweet foam(ish) backing plates that DetailCity.com sells. That thing has been awesome.

I'd probably buy this machine if it was about $40 bucks less. That is about what a heavier, less dynamic, awkward polisher with a bolted on backing plate is worth to me. Blech!
