Hey guys I need a steamer/shampooer to clean the carpets on cars I am detailing. What product is the best?

I am looking for a really cheap one that does a decent job. Price up to $400

Do steamer at this price range even work well?

Which one should I look at?

Honestly, I'm not impressed at all with it. It works, and it gets the job done, but it's really really SLOW. I know this because I have a buddy that uses one, and trust me, it's not the fastest thing in the world. Seeing your budget is only $400, that is probably the best you will get. IMO go with a steamer pressure washer. It will get the job done so much faster and better.

I have the Firebird and its great for what it is, but if your looking for something to clean carpets, forget the steamer all together and get an extractor. Steamers (at least in this price range) are good for things like door panels and jambs, dash componants, tight areas in general, etc but dont expect them to do much for dirty carpets. If you want to throw down several thousand dollars, you can get a steamer such as a Dupray that is a steamer/extractor combo, and even they arent the extractor that a machine like a Mytee HP60 or HP100 is. My advice if your just looking for something to do carpets and seats, would be the Mytee Tempo spotter. Its a cold water unit, but your not going to find a heated model for less than 600 or 800 bucks. Either that, or go to Target and get a Bissel Little Green Pro Heat for $100. They do a good job for the money but the water tanks are really small.
