What should I do about this dent?

I recently purchased a 2001 540i - overall in good shape, with one exception. On the passenger side lower panel, there is a dent with chipped paint which has started to rust.

I'm looking for advice on the best way to ensure the rust doesn't spread as well as repairing the dent. After reading some articles on thinking of sanding the rust away, then filling the dent with bondo and painting. I have attached some pictures of the dent, it's about the size of a quarter.

Any advice would be appreciated. Also can I get away with using a brush to apply touch up paint or should I look into getting matching spray paint?

Thanks,

Tommy

T, welcome aboard! If this car is quite nice, don't you want to have that fixed professionally? It wouldn't be a big deal.

I'm trying to keep this car a complete DIYer, but if the task at hand is pretty difficult and the price isn't ridiculous - I guess I should at least consider getting it professionally done. Do you think this wouldn't be an easy fix?

It "appears" to be an e-z fix. The only thing that worries me is the depth of that rust and your ability to completely eliminate it. Rust is hard to fully control, IMO.
