What pads should I go with

Hi guys, I'm new here so this may have been addressed many times, but I looked and couldn't find anything. I have a 2001 Acura CL Type S and the paint job SUCKS. Is there anything that you guys know of, other than bras, that could protect this paint? I need help, I have like a billion chips. :bounce

Try
www.xpel.com

A lot of people in the local S2000 club use it, but usually they get it put on when the car is new. I don't know how it would look if the front is already heavily chipped.

Not sure what you looked for or how you looked for it, since there are literally dozens of threads discussing this issue.

Look at the top of this web page, there is a button called "Search". Click on it. Type in the word "xpel" and you will get at least 48 different threads on the subject.

If you already have a few chips on your front bumper or hood area, then you might want to touch them up before using XPEL. I have XPEL on my car and I really like the way it protects and looks. Laters.

So I've decided to get a PC. I'll be using m105 and m205. What would be good pads to go with and how many should I get? I need to get rid of some medium-heavy swirls and some RIDS.

A lot of people prefer the 5.5 inch pads. You could get a couple of orange, white and black pads to start off with. I prefer the flat pads over the CCS. Also, don't forget to get some Snappy Clean to clean your pads. Clean them often during polishing and dry them as best as you can before using them. Hopefully some of the other guys with more experience will chime in with more tips/info. Good luck and don't forget to take pics!

P.S. Give Angelo a call. He's a great guy and has tons of knowledge.

I would get several pads in the 5.5. Orange, white, and gray. If the defects are really bad you could get one yellow for extra cutting power

+2 on the 5.5 pads, I like them the best with a PC.

Get a few orange and white pads, probably 4 to 6 each, you'll be using those the most for the job you outlined. You want to have plenty on hand, nothing worse than running out of pads in the middle of a job.:banghead:

You might want to get a couple black, red and gold pads as well. Use the black with 205 for a last time finishing go around, if you feel like it. The red or gold pads are great for applying a sealant with a PC, after you've polished the car.

Snappy cleaner works great for cleanup, so does Meg's Super Degreaser. I use them both.

Have fun!

One of each 3.5" and 5" backing plates and 3 of each of the following color. Orange, White and Black in the CCS HI Gloss or Classic Flat pads. Don't forget the snappy clean for your pads.

Good to know on the 5.5" I was going to get 6.5". Also one of the first cars I will be doing is my Dad's work truck. It's a black GMC longbox Crew cab. Will 4 pads be enough?

If you mean four of each color, for that size of vehicle, then yes. That will be enough. If you're only going to get one of each color don't forget to clean the pad frequently. A gunked up pad will render it almost ineffective. If you can, get multiple pads of the same color and make life easier on yourself.

4 orange and 4 white should do. Get a spur brush to clean the pads after each panel.

I am curious, why the flat over the CCS ?

I actually like CCS pads better than flat pads. CCS pads glide smoother over the paint, and keep more polish on the surface. You might get slighly better correction with flat pads, but it's not a deal breaker, IMO.
