what orbital should i buy for detailing

Anyone have one of those Vac N' Blo machines? They are on sale at CMA....not a big discount, but enough to push me over the edge since I have been looking at them for a while. I currently use my home vacuum and have had good success with it.......any comments

I read an older thread last night about them. Do a quick search.

I remember nothing but compliments.

I will stick with my shop vac though for now.

Well worth the money imo. The vac n'blo has incredible suction and is small enough to easily use in your car's interior. I am sure you will also find many other uses for it as well. About 2 weeks ago I took it up on the roof and blew the leaves out of my gutters and I routinely use it to blow out the garage.

I only have one negative comment about the vac n'blo, it does not come with a storage case or bag. With all the attachments you get with the vac n'blo it would be nice to receive something to store them in, especially for the price.

I posted a review in another thread. Do a search and you'll find my comments. Or click on my screen name and you should be able to find it that way.

While you're shopping, check out Brookstone.com for a great price.

I love mine. Huge power in a very small package. Excellent attachments. You'll love the little blower attachment for getting dust and crud our of the cracks.

The vac n blo is a great investment. The vac n blo at Brookstone says it's 4 HP but may not be the car vac n blo which has all of the attachments. I know you can order them though from Metro. I actually use it as a blower on my wheels to get them nice and dry, works great! I bought mine from autoanything.com for 149.00, but it looks like they don't carry it anymore.

so far heard makita 9227, porter cable, etc. what is the best one to go with or do they all get the job done about the same? thanks in advance

The Makita 9227 is a rotary where the PC is a random orbital.

Two different beasts all together.

The popular ones at the moment for Random Orbitals are: Griots Garage RO, Meguiars Orbital and the PC 7424XP.

Then on the even higher-end side there's the Flex 3401.

I have the GG RO and love the extra power that it offers. You can use the same backing plates as you would use on the others.:Dancing Dot:

Which guy

Yes, the backing plate can be changed out. They also sell a unit with a 25' cord :Dancing Dot:

Oh, and my Redbirds are hosting The Round Rock Express tonight :Swordfight:

by "Guy" I meant the Griots Polisher.

Good luck with your game, I live minutes from the Dell Diamond.. I can see the fireworks at the end of shows from my house. Not that I like baseball in ANY capacity.

Oh, that guy

Well, I'm not taking to the feild personally, but yes, we should walk a mudhole straight thru "The Express" and who can't get with a free fireworks show :cornut:

I am 99% sure on getting the griot's garage 6" random orbital.

Question: The person detailing cars insists that I need to get a HEAVY orbital to apply the wax on good. Then again he is old school and probably hasn't tried the new orbitals with stronger power.

Will the griot's garage 6" ro do the same job as a 10-15 pound makita orbital for waxing?

tia

I have the old UDM, it works fine for waxing. You only want a light coat anyways, not sure what a heavy machine is going to do for you. I've done a bunch of cars a bunch of times and never had an issue. The Griot's will be fine, just make sure you get a red or gold pad and you'll be good.
