I have 3 very tniy spots like this on my truck. They have just a very slight roughness to them basically I had to use my fingernail to feel the roughness.

Any ideas on what this is?

Thanks.

correct me if i'm wrong, but that looks like crows feet and the beginning of clear coat failure...

OK thanks!

I have to go see a pro about getting some scratches fixed anyway and I have been looking through a lot of threads trying to learn more about caring for my truck and I guess I was starting to panic the more I thought about it.

BigAl3 thanks for putting the picture in an easier format to see.

If that's not a refinished panel I agree that looks like the result of bird crap. All crap is different and sometimes there are different reactions depending on the weather, etc.

Seeing this makes me re-feel that sick to my stomach feeling I had when this happened to my old black Eclipse. Within a year, most of the hood and roof's clear was gone.

Dam I hav some of that on my car that i discovered after buying it....

I thought the worst n just protected it with layers of wax, might not do much but dont have the money right now to repair it...

Repainting is really the only way to fix this right?

If you catch it early I suspect a pro could wetsand down to the basecoat and reclear the section, but he'd have to be REALLY good to blend the new clear in enough to make it not noticeable, I think. I'm no expert however. My Eclipse was way too far gone to save it from a repaint (which I never did, sold it with the bad paint).

I am going to try to get some estimates either Monday or Tuesday for some scratches that I need to get fixed and I will see what they tell me.

The spots look big in the picture but they are really very very small. It is had to see them unless you are standing right in front of them.

I stopped by a body shop today to ask them what they thought it was and they agreed that it was probably bird poop that had etched into the finish.

Thanks for the help everyone.
