What is the max PSI you want to use on your vehicle paint?

I am surprised that I cannot find the answer to this anywhere. I used Google and tried about 5 different search terms and combinations.



Anyways... I bought a 2550 PSI pressure washer from Lowes. I don't think this is over the limit, I am just wondering what the max would be?



Also which one would you recommend... One engine is an OHV that is the only thing that makes it looks better.

Well you have to consider the variables here. If the paint is in great shape with no rust, Chips or flakes anywhere? If so I've used 3500 PSI PW's with zero issues. However if there's any breaks at all in the paint less is definatly better. However you only get that max pressure when using the zero tip at full blast. Once you switch the tips to a more usuable tip your PSI goes down considerably... But PSI really has little to do with how well the PW will perfom. The real number to look for is GPM's I have a kracher 2500 psi that only has a 2.5GPM and then I have a Landa PW that is 1400 psi but 6gpm's the landa works much much better even without the heat turned on... There's a huge cost difference between the two also though. The Karcher was only about $250 where as the Landa was closer to a $3000 price tag. So when shopping for a PW looking at the PSI's is not the best way to pick out a PW...
 
to throw something in here another big factor on using a pressure washer is when going by gpm make sure your water source can flow to the rate of the pressure washer otherwise your pressure will drop. i run off well wate so i have to use a lower gpm pressure washer not if you run of public water you can usally go as high as 6 gpm.
 
Interesting... well I don't know what GPM actually is but both of those washers are at 2.3 GPM. I went with the Troy Bilt but don't know if one or the other is much better than the other.



@buffer - I'm using a direct spicket above the well.



How do you guys go about getting the water hot?
 
My landa is a Hot water pressure washer that runs on Deisel fuel. I wouldn't run hot water through a PW that isn't meant for it.



and GPM's = Gallons per minute.
 
i put a hot water spicut in the garage and run off a water heater because im not as rich as crazy jake! he is a lunatic! :grinno:
