What is the danger of the having no protection ?

We often use the term "the paint would be left with no protection". Here is an academic question. What is the danger of the having no protection ? Let's assume that the surface will *not* encounter marring from improper washing and drying technique. And, that the automobile is washed as-needed and otherwise well cared for (but still exposed to the elements). Why is it so terrible for a automobile to have no wax/sealant ? The only answer that I can see is that the paint might suffer more fading from the lack of UVB protection provided by the wax/sealant. Please discuss from an academic (educational) point-of-view. That is, I am *not* advocating that paint should go unprotected.

Oxidation occurs more rapidly. Etching from all sorts of contaminants more likely to occur... bug juice, bird poop, sap, tar... they all stick and cause damage. Swirls more likely because the surface isn't slick and is dirty. ie, just rubbing up against the car causes marring. Those come right to mind....

My answer by just reading the title was Std's and unwanted pregnancy. LOL

But honestly oxidtion, difficult wash sessions making it harder to upkeep. No protection from rain, environmental effects and bird droppings. Also a big one in the winter is salt. Its VERY important in the winter to have full protection on your car.

Contaminants will bond easier, making the car harder to wash.

Etching from acid rain, bird poop, bug guts will be more likely to occur.

Because the bugs/contaminants bond easier, this will then cause more effort to scrub them off and likely some induced marring.

Oxidation will be accelerated and it is likely that the clearcoat will fail prematurely.
