What does everyone think?

Weight is the enemy.
I'm about to buy a PC, and I was wondering which kit I should get? Autogeek has a kit for $180 that comes with 3 pads, Autopia has a kit for $200 that has 3 pads and some MF bonnets, and TOTL has a kit for $195 that has 3 7.5" wool pads, 3 6" foam pads, and 2 bonnets. All of these come with the needed backing plates, and they all come with the PC. I was thinking of picking up some chemicals too, and free shipping is a plus. I know I get a discount at Autogeek, I'm not sure about Autopia or TOTL, but discounts are good. Does anyone have any thoughts on the matter?

Seems like you get "more" from TOL, but with shipping who knows. If you buy the PC from PAC it's 139, and get you a pad kit (like the Meg's) you might come out better with the free shipping and the detail city member discount.

Well if you purchase the PC from Lowes you will spend 100...then you can purchase the pad kit from exceldetail.com which is 30 bucks. It comes with backing plate, 2 polishing pads, 1 finishing pad. So that would be 130 bucks. Saving you at least 50 bucks to buy chemicals. Just what i did.

I actually looked at the PC at Lowe's. That's the 7336, it doesn't have speed adjustment, and I was kind of hoping to put it all on one order. I am a member of Autopia, so I don't know whether that would get me a discount there. Does anyone know what TOTL's shipping charges are, it didn't say on the site, but it's UPS ground like PAC, so it should be the same.

If it was the 7336, it should have the speed adjustment. The 7424 and 7336 are the same tool with different counterweights.

My 7336 came from Lowe's and it has the speed adjustment dial. You might want to check again.
It's possible that a "new" version may be out, but this is the first I have heard of it.
I do think Porter-Cable has new owners and mergers are not always a good thing.

Maybe I just didn't see it, I'll go check that today. Handily enough, I have a Lowe's $20 gift card. Alright, so which pads/compounds would everyone recommend?

Top of the Line is my number one vendor! Absolutely fantastic! I don't know where you live, but I get my orders 2 days after I order from them. I know others have had similar experiences too. Their shipping fee is very nominal. I would rather receive something in 2 days than wait a week or more. Hands down my pick for almost all products. :bigups

I'm in no rush right now (due to the reality that it has been raining with no more than a 36 hour gap for the last two weeks, give or take) but I see where you're coming from. Right now, price is more important than delivery time for me. Good to know though, thank you.

Well, I quoted Jared above. I buy from them quite frequently and I can tell you that their shipping fees are very small. They are my number one vendor and I buy most of my supplies from them as they are quality and much cheaper than alot of products talked about here. They have never messed up my order and like I say, you will get it in 2 days probably. My last order was for just over 200 bucks and they charged me 12 bucks. Their shipping charges have never made me go "OMIGOD, that's terrible". Perhaps you could call them and see if they would waive the shipping fee if you bought a sizeable order? :angel :dunno

I don't have enough money to make a "sizable" order, less than $300 all said and done is what I'm shooting for.

I checked on the PC website, and the only difference between the 7424 and the7336 is that the 7424 say polishing and the 7336 says sanding, other than that they are the same thing. Imagine that.

Buy the PC from Lowes .. get your supplies from one of the sponsors of this site...I've said it once and I'll repeat it again ...they make this all possible for you and me to enjoy and if it takes a day longer or costs a dollar more you can at least feel good about coming here and helping to be part of a community.
On top of that when I ordered my pc through Dwayne and some supplies, my box came not only with free shipping but quite a few free goodies included:bigups

Just got the PC from Lowe's. I'm thinking of getting the Lake County Pad kit from autopia. It's only $40 and it comes w/ everything. I'm still not sure on the products, I'm thinking some local stuff at first, then some SSR's later on, once I'm used to it. Does anyone have any other suggestions?

Like megs pro, there's a store down the street from my school that has the full line. I should check if they have a frequent buyer's program.

Here's my .02.
Meguiars does make very good products. In fact some of the best for rotary use.
For the PC though Poorboys SSR line is the easiest to use and will produce great results. Shipping from Poorboy or PAC is reasonable and you will know up front what it will cost.
