What cover??? (No garage)

I am planning on doing a FULL OVERHAUL of the Explorer this weekend with my newly ordered stuff from CMA. However, since some of the products (Souveran, SG) require curing/setup time I need something to cover it with while it is doing so. Now I was going to just go buy a good ol tarp from a hardware store that is big enough to cover every painted/cleaned area, but I wanted to pass it by you guys first.....Any ideas?? Pros, cons, suggestions, comments, lamentations, regards, rants???

If it rains often or if the weather forcast says for rain, then you might want to get a nice car cover made of Evolution 4 or other high quality cover that is good against rain. It is also durable.

If your cheap, I would just use old, soft, cotton bed sheets. I prefer 340 thread count sheets. If it rains you are toast.

Remember to secure these car covers and don't put them on a dirty car.

My 2 cents,

Jason

Good covers, especailly for an Explorer, can easily run over $300. I would get either the Noah or Weathershield cover, both are very good for outdoor use. But like I said, they ain't cheap.

I used to be in a similar situation - black car, kept in the garage, spent 2 days detailing it (on average), would finish day 1 & return on day 2 only to find it covered with a fine layer of dust...

Bed sheets/blankets/cloth's don't do a whole lot (for me) in terms of protecting against dust, especially if the vehicle is outdoors. I'm assuming you're working on it indoors, like in the garage.

I'd put on a coat of SG, wait as long as possible before buffing off and then time it so you do a final coat of SG right before you call it a night. Then, the next morning, carefully QD the vehicle and begin applying your next coat of SG. Unless it's super humid, you should be safe letting the SG cure for about an hour or so before buffing off.

I bought the weathershield cover from CMA and while I like it for the most part, I'm really disappointed that it's not lined with anything on the inside - it feels like I'm dragging a cheap plastic tarp all over the vehicle... (and for my car, the cover was $249) :(

Uh.... :scared .....I really only want to spend at the most the $30 for the 20'x30' tarp at the hardware store. I am NOT willing to spend over $50 for a cover, as I am only using it while in between curing/setup times. So I ask again, is a tarp (typical blue one from any hardware store) ok to put on a car overnight/for a while while the stuff cures/setups???\

Sorry, but for a guy who about a month ago firmly believe $300 worth of stuff to clean a car was ludicrous, I just haven't reached the financial plateau to be able to spend close to $300 on a car cover...... :sosad

Well???

I would not use it. They don't breath (trap moisture) are rough (scratch paint) and that is not what they were intended for. So, NO I would not use it. The fact is you are not going to get a car cover for under $50, just the way it is.

Hmmm.....sounds like my girlfriend's mother's GS400 is sleepin outside for a night :D They volunteered the garage if needed and I will make full use of it.... My Explorer's cooler anyways :) Her mom won't care/know the difference anyways.....

Sheesh I'm mean....

Anyways, thanks for all the replies guys....
