I tried just water and it worked okay but I was told I could get much better results using a cleaning agent, so long as I run Mytee's cleaner through after and make sure there isn't anything left in the solution tank.

While I could recommend several, this would work well Prochem Power Burst Put it in a quart size sprayer and spray on the carpet. Scrub it a little bit . Extract with nothing but water

Yes, it does say that, however automobile carpet and residential carpet are two different animals, Auto carpet is typically a blend of polyester, propolene and recycled materials. If you are not sure, give this a go. Prochem Ultrapac TLC
