Came up with this idea...to put a fibrous material padding on the inside of the wheel wells?:hmmm:

Working on a new Nissan this weekend, the back wheel wells, had this:wow:


It had a ton of dirt, twigs and road debris stuck to it...I pressured washed the heck out of it...about 90% came out...not bad..then I had to use a wire brush to get the rest loose & finish with the pressure washer.


I know that its for noise damning / reduction but slap me that is some hard to get clean stuff:huh:

Is it a material that would trap moisture?
Would it contribute to corrosion in the salt belt because of retaining the road salt/brine solution?

From what I understand its for noise damping ..makes sense on that front but, PITA to clean...it feels like the furry side of Velcro to me..again I'm not sure that this one was thought threw

It's similar to carpeting in boats, thick and plastic type material. It's a pain to clean but if it helps reduce road noise, then I guess that's what they were going for, auto manufacturers don't think of us detailers when it comes to building cars.

Just like everything in a higher end car the quality of the material is real good compared to the Nissan that I worked on..this stuff was retched to work on
