Is there something that can be applied to the front bumper and to the front of the hood before a road trip that will help with the removal of bugs and stuff? Make them "less sticky" to the paint? Also, is there some sort of temporary mesh-like cover that can be put on the front grill in order to stop the bugs from hitting the radiator? Don't know if it makes a difference but I always remove any bugs and stuff from the radiator after a road trip. Thanks.

I use a bra for trips. It works great.

I would not try the strap on mesh products I've seen because I would think that on a long trip, it may scratch painted finishes since it is not formed to fit individual cars, which may lead to the mesh flapping at various points on the car.

If you look into a bra, I would suggest a colgan bra. I have used them for years with great results. In my opinion, they are the best fit very well. I think the even guarantee them for sustained 100mph speeds.

Colgan even offers rear view mirror bras, which I have. Keeps the mirrors chip free.

I am partial to the 3M Scotchcal material (xpel.com, or stonguard.com). I have the xpel version on my BMW and love it, expecially for those long trips that you are describing. Great protection for the entire front of the car and on the side view mirrors. It is a little pricey (depending on the car - $400-500) but well worth the investment. It will save you from rock chips, bugs, tar, etc. It is more of a permanent solution but you can take it off without any harm to the paint.

Check out this thread for some pics of some cars, including mine, with it on.

Adjulian, just got a 330Ci delivered, did you apply that yourself or have it done professionally? Considering on getting it, but I like to NOT pay others to do what I could do myself, given that its not rocket science or brain surgery ;)

I have installed several Xpel clear bras so far. It requires patience but is not extremely difficult. If you consider yourself good with your hands and detail oriented you can handle it.;)

Only because I was operating under a time constraint. I agree with BradB, I would have installed it myself if I had the time. You can get the xpel kit for your car at under $300.

I was attempting to re structure my thinking as a detailer and how I sell my services and was thinking of some additional services that I could up sell above and beyond the regular detail. so far I came up with this short list.

I also offer an additional list of services including but not limited to, leather conditioning, odor removal, engine bay detailing, aluminum polishing(wheels, toolboxes etc.), brass polishing,

Please if you will list some of the things that you detailers here at TID. would consider as an up sell. I am looking for both detailing related services and also services to be considered outside the box such as power washing or whatever else one could make money doing. Thanks in advance to all who reply creatively. Batchainpuller

I try to be a 1 stop shop for my customers :wizard:

I offer dentless paint repair,bumper repair,window tinting,window replacement,leather repair,carpet dying/replacement,wheel repair....You name it, I can find someone to do it Da Rules!

I also have a deal with a local tire store that I buy all my tires thru where I receive tires/wheels @ wholesale pricing ;)

I have a Import Repair shop that I personally take around 30 of my customers car to for all there service needs. I started doing this years ago. Most ppl really hate to deal with repairs. Plus, many have no idea when they are getting jammed or not. By having as many cars As I do being serviced. I am able to get very fair pricing + its less likely I will get jammed considering the volume I am able to send :soldier:

Oh, also. Here in Memphis all cars must be taken thru city inspection...People really hate having to do that here, if you go at the wrong time of the day/month you can easily sit in line for 2 hours

I have several other ways I have found to make money in this business....:Dancing Dot:

The main thing is to provide a service that will save your customers time so they can attend to more important issues such as Golf or whatnot.... :out:

Have you done any electronics work? I'm planning on offering stereo installs once I get my detailing thing going (all part-time mind you). I love doing stereo stuff, and I figured I can add that to the list. Window tinting would be a good one also (though I have no plans of that as I've never done it before).

Me.....Electronic Expierence. No, I can't even wire up a Home Theatre System

However, yes I have a shop for that also. The guy that owns it has designed multiple award winning audio/video designs. He has also been featured in numerous industry rags :wizard:

I try to sub-out as much of my work as humanally possible. The main thing I have learned in my old age is to work smarter, not harder :money: :money: :money:
