What am I doing wrong when using a buffer??

I have an old buffer/sander my dad gave me. I used a 6" microfiber pad to put my wax on but it seemed like after only half the car was done the pad was no good. Held it on an angle like it said in the directions. About a quater inch or less in from the edge, build up started and was causing the wax to splatter or thats what it looked like to me. I would apply the wax by hand, then remove it with the buffer. In the beginning it was all good but then I was getting these splatter type marks and only used the pad on half of the car. So basically it took me 2 of these pads for the whole car. Is there something wrong with my technique???

Can't really tell without seeing what type of buffer and pad you are using. I am assuming some type of orbital polisher, but chances are that if you are using anything other than a PC or something very similar, you won't be very happy with it's performance. IMO, its much better to just apply and remove waxes and sealants by hand anyways.

well im not to sure the difference of a PC and orbital polisher. This one i use is probably over 5-10 years old. it has a flat surface which the pad fits over. The thinckness is less the then a half inch id say.
