Wetsanding

What kind of material do you use for wetsanding? actual sandpaper or do some of you use xxxx grit foam type pads...

Both sheet and foam backed finish abrasives are available.

Which you use depends on whose abrasive system you choose, Meguiar's, Mirka, 3M, Norton, etc. Each has their own approach.

PC.

i use 3M sandpaper only as it is quality and wont fall apart.........i dont own a pc i only use a dewalt high speed and a 16 pound orbital ;)

can you restore the wetsanded surface with a compound and a PC? or do you NEED a rotary?

Depends on the grit you used to wetsand, the paint, and what products you have for use with the PC.

Scratches from Meguia'rs Unigrit 3000 paper come out pretty easily, even by hand, using 3M PI-III RC (05933). That RC is getting hard to find but the idea is that yeah, you can remove those scratches easily enough. Usually the scratches from the Meguiar's 2000 grit sanding *block* will come out OK too, they just take more time/effort. BTW, this was on hard Spied Hecker clear.

But other companies' papers can be surprisingly hard to deal with, even in fine grits. No way would I want to remove the scratches from 3M 2000 grit paper without a rotary and I've done it before (so yeah, it's possible but I'd go with the Meg's stuff).

Get the Unigrit stuff, it really is easier to correct.

I've never got around to trying my ultra-fine foam backed pads, but they oughta work OK. But generally, I can't see much reason to go with anything except the Meguiar's 2000 block (finest they make) and the Unigrit 3000 paper. Those two will do most anything.

be sure to use the backing pad and hi-tech wash with it . not too much soap , just enough in the water to provide lube .

Use the back pad to wipe the water away and a MF towel to check your progress often .

Whoa thanks for the links bro! Do I really need the hi-tech wash or can I get away with using conventional car wash soap since I have alot(NXT wash)?

NXT wash is not so gentle , and might have waxes / polymers in it . Honestly I don't know 100% if that is suitable for wetsanding .

Plus the #62 is the highest-lubricity of the Meg's washes and the lubrication is what you're after. I generally use Griot's Car Wash, but that's high-lubricity too. You could always get a little bottle just for stuff like this.

My sister's car got sand blasting particles all over, the surface was really rough as sand paper. but i used clay and the panels are smooth. But on closer instection there's still like left over residue all over the car.

Will wetsanding remove these things? I have meg's unigrit 1500 2500 and 3000 sand paper.
