Wet Vac

I am going to be looking into a new wet vac here soon and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions as to good ones or not so good ones. Also i was wondering if more power means better pick up power? Thanks for your help in advance.

I recently bought the 4 gallon Rigid from Home Depot. Hangs on the wall has a very long hose and the suction is better than my 6hp Craftsman. I love this thing.

I have a Rigid as well. Not a wall mount though. I love it! Just remember to take the filter out when you go to suck up water. :lol I learned the hard way. ;)

I have a ShopVac brand Contractors series with the larger motor, 6.5hp I think. Suction is really great and the unit has a tilt handle to make pulling it easier. The only negative to the machine is its bulk, of you go mobile this may not be the right option for you. Also, buy the attachments packages with whichever vac you go with, you'll find more of them useful than you think.

i got the same thing except i got mine from sears.(cant remember the brand. probally craftsman) its go alot of power for how small it is... and very long hose and 5 or 6 diff attachments and easy to take off the wall if u need. i can streatch it across a small 2 stall garage and vacuum the car farthest away with ease.

Another nice thing about the Rigid I have is that you can carry it because it is small. Also has a flex hose that stretches easily from 4 ft to 12 ft. Better than dragging a long hose around which is a PITA

I got the same one (Good old home depot), and it works great! Get the little miniature kit as well, comes with little appliances for the hard to reach spots.

I have the RIGID vac that zymolKK is referring to (16 Gallon, 6.5 HP with free Stinger 2.5 HP - see it here:http://www.homedepot.com/prel80/HDU...ID=cccfadddmlhgdmgcgelceffdfgidgng.0&MID=9876) I got it shortly after christmas. THis is the first Shop Vac I have owned so I can tell you how it works in comparision to others but here is my take on it.
I used the 6.5 version the first few times on my vehicles and it worked great. It was a little bulky and was difficult to get under and between the seats. I also used it to clean up all the dog hair and dirt that accumulates in my garage. After about 8 times of use, the suction on it dimished significantly. I cleaned the filter and it helped a little but still not like it was new. I believe the filter actually needs to be replaced. I now just use it to keep my garage clean.
In the mean time, I have started to use the Stinger for vacuuming the cars and for as small as it is, it works just as well as the 6.5 HP and the hose is small enough that I can use my attachements from my hosuehold vacumm with it. The only probelm I have with it is the hose. It is kind of short and will come undoen form the vacuum when you really try to reach with it. It also seems not that flexible. I have not yet tried to use it as a wet vac so I cannot comment on that.
Overall, I am pleased, especially since i wa able to get it on sale for $69 - a 50 gift card I received. Iam sure there are better ones out there but for the price and for my use, it was the right way to go.
Oh yeah, one last thing, I had some probelms putting the casters on the 6.5 and had to drill the holes out a little bigger.

Thanks,

Gary

I just bought this one, 5hp craftsman wet/dry. It is only 5 gal., but mounts on the wall or can be carried around. Doesn't weigh as much as the others. It has a blowing featurer which I thought was important. Last it has a 14 and a 7 ft hose that can be hooked together. I will never have to take this thing off the wall except to empty it.

Who really need a 16 gal. container anyhow? If you work construction or something I could see, but for detilaing I think it may be a little extreme. That is just me though. I get tired of dragging the vaccum around. the smaller the better. Or like the one I bought I will never have to.

zannard. Any problems with that shop vac loosing suction? I am about to make a plunge for a shop vac and choose the one russell is refering to, but after hearing it loose suction. I am not quite sure I want that one.

Hey LT, like I said I just bought the thing and I haven't had any issues with it as of yet, but I have only used it a couple of times. Let me give it a few more times of heavy working and I will get back to you.
