hi guys, this is my first time here so please be patient.

i have a serious problem. recently i wet sanded and polished a friend's car. at the end of the day, looking at it from far it had a really nice shine, but looking at it closely from a 45 degree angle in direct sunlight, you could still see the wet sanding marks in the entire car.

after wet sanding i started the job with glasurite polishing paste (a german product) and then the sonus 123 system. i did all this with my pc 7424 polisher and it took the whole day.

my question then is, what am i doing wrong and how do you properly wet sand and polish a clear coat?

What grit did you use? You may need Meg's 105/205 to get rid of the sanding marks. Menzerna is another good compound/polish.

A rotary really is the proper tool for removing wet sanding scratches. What grit paper did you use?

Pics please.

but yeah i dont think the PC is the best option to remove sanding scratches. unless you have a very light touch and maybe just sanded a small section. i would try a rotary with some menz polish

you can fix that problem using megs 105/205 and a yellow LC pad for your 7424.....rotory is not always needed.....

Yea, we are all just shooting in the dark without pictures here...

I don't know... if he sanded with 2500 Grit and there are still wet sanding marks all over, M105 --> M205 --> 106FF might do the trick on a PC, but if this car has been sanded down with 1000 or less,

I wish you luck if you don't have a rotary...

I wish you luck even if you do .................. That's a bad situation

In any event M105, M205 is your friend here...

Don't think anyone said it was....just that it was not the best tool for the job. ;)

thanks guys.

pics are hard to get cause my friend does not want me anywhere near his car right now.

i used 2500 grit paper but here is the sad part: i wrapped the entire sheet of paper around a large sponge that i usually wash cars with and sanded the car. sometimes the paper became crumpled and left sanding marks that were a lot heavier than others.

afterward i spoke to a self made pro who said that i should have used a sanding block. he also said that i should have soaked the paper in water for half hour before using it and that i should always sand in one direction. please tell me if all this is true.

now for my new question. which is better, wet sanding by hand with a block or wet sanding with the pc 7424 and a disc?
