Wet looking silver

Silver seems to be a color that is hard to make look wet. You can make it look super reflective pretty easily, but the wet look is tougher.



Post pics of your favorite combos on silver, maybe we can teach each other a thing or two.

The first pic of the Honda and its combo of products seems to give the wettest look of them all.



Could be that it is also partially in the shade?



Next in line I would say is the Final Polish vehicle

Anthony-yes. shade seems to make silver look a bit wetter since the sunlight isn't reflecting off the car and blinding you. I didn't have the keys to that car though, so I couldn't more it into the sun. It can be frustrating sometimes not having control over where the car is when you shoot the pics.



Still, shade or not, in person the car looked very wet and the owner was quite pleased.

OK, even though I just posted one of these pics I thought I would post it here again, along with another 911 Seal Grey picture which was done with a different combination of products to see if any difference can be seen.



I tried to find 2 pics as close as possible in shot angle as I could.



The first Seal Grey 911 was done in Light Cut by machine, Vanilla Moose by hand and P21S to top.

Then we have this recent 911 I did with 2 coats of AIO and topped with Liquid Souveran.



I lean to this second Seal Grey as being more wet looking of the two. P21S seems to give more reflective qualities.

Here's my try at this:

I think there's about 6 coats of Z5 on there. I know some people prefer Z2 on light colors, but I think they look pretty much the same.

This one has a bit more reflection than wetness.



These are the only pictures I could find that weren't in the shade.

I know Ive posted this before, but this Boxter S has Aio, Sg and S100. I dont think the pic does it justice. The next day it looked even better. Has anyone else noticed a change the next day with S100?

The Zaino seems to give more of a flat sheen on silver, not saying that it is bad or anything but I can really see a difference between Zaino and carnauba on silvers as the carnauba gives more glow and warmth, anyone else notice that?

Some enthusiasts suggest that after laying down a layer of a high quality carnauba to let it sit out in the warm sun for a bit, so that it gets warm but not hot to the touch, bring in under some shade and the QD it down and they claim it really makes the carnauba jump out even more. They claim that the oils evaporate and the optical clarity is enhanced, which is most likely why after say 24 hours the finish tends to have more gloss and depth. Sounds good anyway

Where can you get the Meguiar's DACP and Swirl Free products at? My Eclipse has some minor swirls that I can't get out.



BTW that S2000 looks amazing even in the shade!

You can order them from the net or go the web site and search for distributors.

Call one of them and ask if they can sell you the product.

The distributor in Houston doesn't sell retail so they gave me a car painting products store where I can buy.



Meguiars is not that difficult to find them.

Yeah, I can see what you mean. It seems to have a flatter look. The best way I can describe it is that Zaino is a bit "bright" while carnaubas have a dark rich look.

Overland Auto Paint is where I get all my Megs. pro stuff. They have DACP, SFP, and can get for you, APC+ and Final Detail.

They are 80th and Santa Fe appx- downtown OP.

your definately right, Carnuba on Silver is definatley the way I like to finish all the SIlver cars I do. I find that P21s/S100 out performs most waxes Ive used on SIlver. It is a great combination of Gloss and warmth, that definately improves when applied on top of a synthetic.



Have you noticed a difference between 1 coat and 2 coats P21S/S100? Is there a deeper warmth or higher gloss?

I've also found this to be true. With some of the pics I have of my own car I found that if you turn down the brightness the car gets incredibly wet looking.... but then the pic is also way darker than it was in real life!



It looks fantastic at night time too under the sodium lights (particularly those yelloy/pinkish tinted ones), although I've never tried to capture this with a camera.

I know what yall mean about silver being a tough customer!



I did a friend of mine's metallic gray/silver '92 Pathfinder about a week ago (sorry no pix ) and after finishing #1 on a wool pad then DACP with cutting, my friend (who had been doing something else during the whole process) came over and asked me why I had put water on the hood.



That made my day!

I have not notcied a great deal of difference between 1 or 2 coats of P21S, especially on silver colors.



As for taking pictures of silver cars in certain lighting, I love the look of highly reflective silver (light colored) cars during sunset times when the sky is a warm orange color, not too light nor too dark. Silvers take on a whole new look in that light.
