Good luck!!

I don't know of any programs available to help...I'm from the old school of manually entering the code, sorry...but just remember to keep it simple (no annoying animation or java), make it easy to read - get your info across without too much text, and most important, make it easy to navigate - nothing worse then not knowing how to go back or get to different pages.

Depends on what you are going to be building with. Do you know what software you will be using? When I signed up with 1and1.com they sent me a couple options. OCDetails.com is built with NetObjects and OCDetails.info was built with Dreamweaver. I find that Dreamweaver is pretty dynamic if you have the patience to learn it. Frontpage is probably easier, but Dreamweave is worth learning.

If I can help at all then let me know. I know a little bit about web design and know some good javascripts that you can use to help out a bit. If you are looking for just a simple site with a couple pages then that is pretty easy to build. Sounds like your friend may be hooking you up on that though. I'm sure there are many of us here who can help once the basic design has been pounded out for ya. :bigups

Ever since my VERY first website, I have just used software where I type, and it lays the page out :)

Depending on who you have to host your site, many of them have some type of web designing software available. They are pretty much a cookie cutter type, but it will give you a basic design. Then I'm sure that members here can help as well.

Good Luck

Plan your site before making it. look at other sites and see what they have, then work out what you need. Before you sit at the keyboard, it's useful to know how many pages you are going to have and what is said on each of them.

Also think about it from the customer's point of view, what information do they want to know? Answer thier questions on site and thats less tme you will need to spend answering them on the phone.

thanks for the input

It will probably just be a one or two page site....i want it to be simple....im not sure what im using to make it, thats where my buddy comes in

but i did look for domain names....joesautodetail.com is not available, but the guy is willing to sell it to me....i asked how much it would cost and he said to give him my best offer, which i figure means he wants a considerable amount of money for it.....but the thing is i can get joesautodetail.net or joesdetail.com for like 10$....what do u think i should do? and i have no clue what to offer this guy????

dang dude, you should have just gotten .net for $9 at GoDaddy, its just 3 letters, doesnt make much difference. My photography site i had use .biz

That was probably more than just the domain name. He probably bought web hosting service with a load of bandwidth too. That is kind of high though... I pay $60 a year for my 5 websites that I maintain. $120 has to be quite the package. What all did you get?

That's a pretty nice package. You have FTP access, SSI (wish I had it), lots of bandwidth, some really nice tools... I'd say it is a great package depending on what your needs are. It isn't really the best if you are just going to maintain a homepage, but for a business site you've got yourself a nice package. Just make sure you develop a good website that takes advantage of everything. If you find that you aren't using everything then downgrade as soon as you can. One of the smart lessons you will learn in business is that you should never pay for services that you don't utilize. Only pay for what you need and what you will use.

i hear that...now that i looked at it more closely, im not sure i need all the extra stuff, cuz im not a computer whiz or anything close to it....i wonder if they would let me downgrade eventhough i did already paid....o well if they can't, then ill just try to make the best page i can.

I would ask them about that as soon as possible. I wish there was a package between the first one and the second one. For OCDetails.com I would never be able to do the first one. There are a couple things on the second one that I don't have with the package I got from 1and1, but it isn't worth twice what I'm paying now. You might want to just see if you can cancel the whole thing and sign up with 1and1. It really is a better option if you don't know much about web design and all that and just want something basic. It is way cheaper too. Ask them about purchasing the domain name and then transfering it to 1and1. See what they say. You don't gain anything by not asking.
