Weird BMW paint or just coincidence!

Ive only been valeting/detailing 3 months now and for some reason BMW 5 series seem drawn to me, thay have all been diesel sports and ranged from 2005 to 2007, but one thing has stood out on all of them. On the front wings just below the indicator lamp the paint goes from smooth to feeling very rough as though its got overspray on it. The first car the owners son had started to wash it with a brillow pad/scourer, so I had to remove the scrathes starting with 2000 grit paper then working finer so I put this down to my behalf. But today ive done a sept 07 reg 520 sport, and sure enough while applying 3m paste wax the same overspray feeling is there on the complete panel below the indicator light. There is no tar or dirt build up just a significant feeling on the paint!

Help, thoughts, and advice please for your friends 3000 miles accross the water?

I've seen this on a few foriegn cars such as Nissan and Toyota, I believe they spray the lowest parts of the panels thicker and less refined as to help detere rock chips and such debre from hurting the lower parts behind the wheels and on the lower bumper.

Could be that.

Cheers lads, I think this is BMW,s take on chip guard where rather than the thick orange peel look on the sills they just apply a thicker coat behind the front wheels.

Anyway many thanks and a merry xmas to one and all!
