This weekend was a big weekend for me. I got to use the PC for the first time!!!
Now I will tell you the story of my PC and my moms sebring.
Her car was in BAD shape, Im talking little black specs of rail dust ALL over the hood and car, barely ever washed and never taken care of as well as some slight scratches.
I started with washing the car with AJAX (dish soap like dawn, we didnt have any dawn around the house) that worked fine.
I left the water on it to clay it and WOW did claying make a difference, The car now started to shine, when I clayed the hood I could FEEL the grits bieng picked up through a FULL bad of zaino clay, it was almost like I could hear them too, my most impressive claying yet, took me about 1 hr to clay the whole thing because it was so bad.
After the claying I took out the meg's fine cut and the PC with yellow pad, first timer here!!! I went after a long scratch on hear trunk lid that looked liek a cardboard box dragged over it, not deep at all but noticable, After 2 tries I got rid of almost all of it!!
I followed that by doing the whole car with the fine cut and yellow pad, I started to look better, I got ou tmost scratches and swirls, my next step was to SMR the whole car to get the haze out using a white foam pad. After I did that everyone thought I was done with the car, yeah right!!!
Next up was the second wash, I felt because there was no dirt on it at all why the need for the 2nd wash bucket or 2 wash mitts, so I took the 2nd buucket and started soaking my pads in it and used one mit to go over the car with the ajax, took me about 10 mins to wash IF THAT. While rinsing it for the wash I noticed the SMR fillers makes the water bead, because after I washed it there was no beading. I dried it with my BBT and a few small MF's Next step, ZAINO!!!
I pulled the car out of the garage and into the sun so I could tell exactly where I was applying the zaino, and because of the recent zaino PC post I decided to go the pc way. I first applied the polish lok with a mf hand applicator, wow I SUCK at using polish lok, its SOO tough to see where you put it on I just have to be good, I am buying ZFX this week to solve that prob. After I got around the car, I busted out the PC again and put the grey finishing pad on and I applied the zaino in an X very lightly, Now I don't measure and Im not sure how much I used but it was ALOT less than I would use by hand, I am using the PC to apply forever more.
While waiting for the Z to dry I busted ou tthe Z12 and used it with the PC on the windows similar to how you would apply SMr to the car, I must warn of 1 thing, WATCH OUT FOR SLING!! There were some little specs that flew off onto the car from the Z12 and It was TOUGH to get them off because they dried fast before I noticed. I got most all of them out except a few because I got tired. The windows turned out GREAT! shiny as ever.
While still waiting to dry I used Vinylx on the tires, What I did was spray almsot a 1/4 of spray on 4 spots on the wheel and spread it with an eagle 1 tire swipe and buffed it off later, Looked great to me. Nice shine but not glossy. The wheels were already clean because I had my gf scrub them with a wheel cleaner brush and the left over car wash while I was drying, I love her so much, she at least helps me out when she isnt begging me to hurry up so we can go out.
After buffing off the Z5 with a MF towel I took a ganer at the car, It was so impressive I can't believe I did it myself you guys who helped me prepare for that day are so great I don't know how to thank you. I showed my mom and she loved it!!! the next day her friends were over and they want me to do thier cars, now I don't know what to say yet because it took me 4 hours and this was a convertable and these people have minivans, I could skip the clay and save time but Im not sure, and then theres what to charge.
Anyhow today rolls along and I decide to do my WRX and start from ground 0. First I washed with ajax again, only I must have put too much in th ebucket or not rinsed it off quick enough because on some spots of my car there were TONS of little white spots about 2x the size of a pinhead, you could see them so easily on my black paint and only claying would remove them, and even then the clay had a hard time. Removing these took up SOO much of my allotted time and energy to do the car that I barely felt like finishing it after I was done because they werent all gone.
I followed up with 3M SMR over the whole car, this got rid of some swirls but I could still see some in the sun (I was doing this in my garage, NO WAY could i do it in the sun my paint would boil, I need big halogen lamps). The smr got some stuff out but there were still some little "Scratches" that werent gone but I couldnt use fine cut because I wanted to make the pool before dark and my girl was calling me all mornin.
After the SMR I gave it a good wash down the same way soaking the pad ect ect. I pulled it into the sun again and did the same Z5 step as I did with the sebring, only this time I used LESS Z5 because I could see it going on the car because of the sun and because my car was black. While waiting to dry I did the tires and did a little cleanup and I was done, It looks GREAT but im not happy enough (will I EVER be happy enough with my black car? )
I think it was because of those spots I got put in a bad mood.
Has anyone had any problems with using too much dawn and getting little spots or do you guys this it was this crappy ajax stuff.
Anyhow, I am happy to a point with my car but I think I want to finecut the hood and trunk then SMR to try to get as many swirls out as possible only using a halogen lamp next time. I also am going to buy the ZFX so I dont have to bother with Z1 EVER again.
All in all it was a good weekend, I have some prospective customers and I know to buy some damn dawn because ajax sucks, I am going to have to start over again with my WRX I think because my prep time was cut in half because of the spots. My moms sebring looks like new and many people commented and said they thought it was new, to me it looks a whole different color after the detail and I am going to keep it looking good.
Next week, WRX try number 2!!!
