Weekend fun with a black civic si

My sister was in town so I decided to work on her car a little. Rotated the tires and cleaned the underside of the car, insides of the rims, wheel wells, etc. They all got 303. After that I put it down and got to work on the paint. The before pics were from her camera phone so they aren't the best but anyway she had some reasonable rotary swirls from dealer prep on the top half the car, pretty heavy swirling on the hood and trunk and quite a bit of bird poop etching on the roof. I learned a couple things doing her car. First, I love optimum compound, it works really well, has a ridiculously long working time but doesn't need a rotary to achieve good results, and doesn't dust. Only "issue" I had with it is if you don't work it long enough it can be a little tricky to completly remove. Second, I need new pads, and lastly, hondas seem to have really soft paint. OK, on to the pics.

You can see the rotary holograms here.

Process:

Wash wtih Z7

Clay

Optimum Compound via PC/LC orange pad on hood, roof, trunk, pillars and tops of doors. Hood took a couple passes.

Optimum Polish via PC/LC polishing pad entire car

RMG via PC finishing pad

EX w/canauba via PC finishing pad

Natty's Blue via hand

Windows got stoners, tires and trim got Zaino tire dressing. Put some wheel sealant on her rims too, they were a mess.

Afters (it was almost dark at this point so sorry for no full sun shots):

No more holograms or swirls, yay.

Ya, I know. It was 8pm when I finished so the sun was going down. I told her to take some pictures today and e-mail them to me, we will see if she obliges. :)

You put 303 on the wheels/underside?

And they make the SI in a coupe version?

I put 303 in the wheel wells and on the underside of the car, ya. The wheels themselves got poorboys wheel sealant and the tires got some zaino tire dressing.

And, if i'm not mistaken the SI is coupe only, isn't it? This one is a 2001. Good little car for her, and gets really good gas mileage.

In canada, the civic ex is called civic si and the civic sir is our civic si.

That looks awesome :xyxthumbs . How are you liking the Optimum products? I'm still waiting for mine.

Thanks :)

I don't want to contribute to hype but I really like them a lot. They smell terrible and can be hard to remove (oily) if you don't work them long enough - but the fact that they do work so long is awesome and they don't dust *at all*, plus with the compound and polish you pretty much get an entirely polishing regime in two bottles. The compound isn't as abrasive as say, SSR3 or Menzerna PG, but it will remove quite a bit just by virtue of it's super long working time, and it doesn't haze as badly as SSR3. The polish leaves a really nice finish, too. And they're cheap. So ya, I like them a lot.
