ways to remove dried up compound without scratching the paint ?

3M compound works pretty well, but if one let it sit too long, it's a bummer to remove once dried up. Aside from alcohol and quick detailer, is there anything I may not have thought about to remove it ?

Something like Prepsol or an equivalent. I see Klean-Strip Prep All in Wal Mart.

Wash the car. No need to do anything out of the ordinary.

DavidB: Normally I'd wash the car, but 3M compound once dried up after two days left unattended, is a pain to get rid of. I shouldn't have left it on the bumpers, but I wash sick and had to leave the job, cause normally I never do that.
